Bach Ma is the center of rain due to terrain factors
Hue has been experiencing a historic heavy rain with the intensity of heavy rain and heavy rain.

According to Mr. Mai Van Khiem - Director of the National Center for Hydro-Meteorological Forecasting, Department of Hydro-Meteorological Forecasting, statistics from monitoring data from the National Hydro-Meteorological Monitoring Network show that there are 5 values of the largest daily rainfall in Hue as follows: Hue Meteorological Station (Hue) is 997.6mm (November 3, 1999); Nam Dong Meteorological Station (Hue) is 927.3mm (November 11, 2007); Hue Meteorological Station is 863.7mm (November 2, 1999); Tra My (Da Nang) is 782.4mm (November 5, 2017) and A Luoi Meteorological Station (Hue) is 758.1mm (November 2, 1999).
Mr. Khiem said that according to general regulations on monitoring and meteorological reporting regimes, the daily rainfall is calculated from 7:00 p.m. the previous day to 7:00 p.m. the following day. This is a unified Convention in the monitoring system to ensure the continuity and synchronization of data for natural disaster forecasting and warning.
According to the representative of the meteorological agency, during the recent rain, the above meteorological stations recorded the following rainfall:
Hue meteorological station is 206mm (October 24); Nam Dong meteorological station is 968.1mm (October 27), exceeding the previous historical value; A Luoi meteorological station is 390.2mm (October 27); Tra My meteorological station is 430.6mm (October 27).
Mr. Khiem especially emphasized that at the automatic measurement station at Bach Ma peak (Hue), the largest daily rainfall observed was 1,740mm (October 27). This automatic station has only been put into monitoring operation for a few recent years.
Quick report from the Steering Committee for Natural Disaster Prevention and Control, Department of Dyke Management and Natural Disaster Prevention in the past 3 days (from 7:00 p.m. on October 24 to 7:00 a.m. on October 28), Hue and Da Nang have had common rainfall from 500-700mm, some places over 1,000mm. Some stations have total heavy rainfall such as: Dinh Bach Ma (Hue) 2,785mm, Khe Tre (Hue) 1,484mm, Huong Son (Hue) 1,270mm, Tra Thanh (Quang Ngai) 999mm, Phuoc Thanh (Da Nang) 903mm, Phuoc Chanh (Da Nang) 879mm, La To (Quang Tri) 758mm.
Mr. Khiem said that not only during this heavy rain but in recent years, Bach Ma has always had sudden rain - one of the rain-prone areas of Hue city as well as the whole country.
According to this expert, the rainfall in Bach Ma is many times 4-5 times higher than in neighboring areas. Rainfall in Bach Ma is always much higher than at rain gauge points in Hue or Da Nang.
"The main reason is due to terrain factors, Bach Ma peak is located in the Truong Son range, right at the edge of the East Sea, at an altitude of over 1,400 m. When the humid air mass from the sea blows in (especially when there is a combination of weather including low-level cold air, the tropical festival and the humid wind zone above are active), creating a humid convergence area and then there is an activity of "forcing the terrain to rise", that is, the humidity convergence and rising high, causing strong humidity to accumulate, creating very heavy rain on the spot" - Mr. Khiem analyzed.
Heavy rain in the Central region is still complicated
According to the Director of the meteorological agency, it is forecasted that today and tomorrow, October 29, the cold air complex, tropical convergence zone, and winter wind will still be active.
From the morning of October 28 to the end of the night of October 29, the area from South Quang Tri to Da Nang city and the east of Quang Ngai province will have heavy to very heavy rain with common rainfall in the south of Quang Tri and the east of Quang Ngai province of 150 - 300mm, locally over 500mm.
Hue city and Da Nang city have common rainfall of 200 - 400mm, locally over 600mm.
The area from Ha Tinh to northern Quang Tri will have moderate rain, heavy rain and thunderstorms with common rainfall of 80 - 150mm, locally very heavy rain over 300mm. Warning of the risk of heavy rain with rainfall greater than 200mm/3 hours.
In addition, on the day and night of October 28, the Central, Southern and eastern provinces from Gia Lai to Lam Dong will have rain, moderate rain and thunderstorms with rainfall of 20 - 40mm, locally heavy to very heavy rain over 100mm. During thunderstorms, there is a possibility of tornadoes, lightning, hail and strong gusts of wind. Warning of the risk of heavy rain with rainfall greater than 80mm/3 hours.
On October 30, in the area from Ha Tinh to Da Nang city and the east of Quang Ngai province, there will be moderate rain, heavy rain and thunderstorms with common rainfall of 30 - 70mm, locally very heavy rain over 100mm.
