In recent days, the North has maintained a pattern of alternating sunshine and rain. During the day there are times when it is intermittently sunny with the highest temperature above 34 degrees Celsius; hot weather.
However, according to the National Center for Hydrometeorological Forecasting, the weather is about to change.
From the evening of August 19 to August 20 , the Northern region and Thanh Hoa had scattered showers and thunderstorms, locally with heavy rain with rainfall from 15 - 30mm, locally over 70mm.
From the night of August 20 to 22 , it is forecasted that the Northern mountainous and midland areas will likely experience a period of moderate rain, heavy rain and thunderstorms, with some places having very heavy rain. Total rainfall is commonly from 50 - 100mm, in some places it is over 200mm.
The meteorological agency warns that during thunderstorms there is a possibility of tornadoes, lightning and strong winds. Heavy rain is likely to cause flooding in low-lying areas; Flash floods on small rivers and streams, landslides on steep slopes.
Regarding marine weather , currently, the northern Gulf of Tonkin, the northern sea area of the North East Sea area has showers and thunderstorms.
It is forecasted that on the night of August 19 and August 20, the northern Gulf of Tonkin and the northern waters of the North East Sea area will continue to have showers and thunderstorms. During thunderstorms, there is a possibility of tornadoes and strong wind gusts of level 7 - 8, beware of wave heights sometimes increasing to over 2m.
All boats operating in the above areas are at high risk of being affected by tornadoes, strong winds and large waves.
