According to a quick report from the National Steering Committee for Natural Disaster Prevention, the whole area recorded 9 deaths (1 Hue 1, Lam Dong 1, Da Nang 7 people) and 7 missing people (2 Quang Tri, Hue 1, Da Nang 4). Da Nang has 15 injured people. Localities have had to evacuate 7,253 households with 22,080 people from dangerous areas, of which Da Nang alone has evacuated 4,835 households/15,886 people.
In the past 24 hours (from 7pm on October 28 to 5pm on October 29), rain gauge stations have shown that Bach Ma Peak (Hue) has reached 696mm, Cau Lau (Da Nang) has reached 532mm, Tra Nham (Quang Ngai) has reached 492mm. This huge amount of rain caused floods on rivers to rise rapidly.
In Hue, the water level of the Bo River in Phuoc is 5.19m, exceeding alert level 3 (BD3) by 0.69m. In Da Nang, Thu Bon River at Nong Son reaches 18.5m, above BD3 to 3.5m.
According to the meteorological agency, the flood peak on Thu Bon river at Cau Lau station in the next 12 hours is likely to be equivalent to the historic flood peak in 1964 (5.48m). At least 11 key national highways such as 9B, 14E, 49, Ho Chi Minh Road West branch were blocked due to deep flooding and landslides.
In Hue, 38 landslides have been recorded, including serious locations at Ka Tu Pass and National Highway 49. Da Nang is estimated to have 62,845 m3 of landslides, overflowing onto the roads.
In Quang Ngai, more than 150 landslides have been counted. The railway industry also had to block the Van Xa - Hue section, temporarily suspend a series of passenger trains SE1/2, SE3/4, SE7/8... causing thousands of passengers to be stuck.
According to a quick report from the National Steering Committee for Natural Disaster Prevention, there are currently 127,594 flooded houses, of which Hue has 44,507 houses and Da Nang has 76,427 houses. Many places were flooded 0.5 - 2m deep. 50 houses in Da Nang were completely collapsed or swept away by floods. Floods also destroyed 2,535 hectares of rice and crops, sweeping away 9,450 livestock and poultry.
Also on October 29, General Secretary To Lam issued a letter of encouragement to the people and soldiers. On the same morning, Politburo member and Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh chaired an online meeting to direct response work, and signed Decision No. 2400/QD-TTg to provide emergency support of VND 350 billion to the three localities that suffered the most damage: Hue city VND 150 billion, Quang Tri province VND 100 billion and Quang Ngai province VND 100 billion to overcome immediate consequences. Deputy Prime Minister Tran Hong Ha directly visited the flood center of Hue - Da Nang to direct rescue work.
