399mm of heavy rain in Vinh, exceeding the record for September rainfall for 41 years

AN AN |

The meteorological agency said that the rainfall at Vinh station (Nghe An) reached 399mm on September 19, 2026, exceeding the record rainfall recorded in September since 1985.

Last night and this morning (from 7 pm on September 18 to 7 am on September 19), the south of Quang Tri province had heavy to very heavy rain, in some places over 200mm such as Kien Giang station (Quang Tri) 218.8mm, Sen Thuy (Quang Tri) 209.8mm. On September 19, rain decreased rapidly.

From this morning, September 19, heavy rain areas move to the Nghe An - Ha Tinh area. The focus of heavy rain is in the East of the above provinces with rainfall from 100-200mm, especially at Vinh station (Nghe An) is 399mm as of this evening.

The National Center for Hydro-Meteorological Forecasting said that, according to historical data, in the same period of September, the largest daily rainfall in Vinh (Nghe An) was previously 387.9mm (occurred on September 10, 1985).

For the whole year, the largest daily rainfall ever recorded at Vinh meteorological station was 710mm (October 16, 2019), of which the rainfall in the period from 7 am to 1 pm on October 16, 2019 reached 470mm.

The cause of the rain on September 19, 2026 is due to the influence of weak low-level Northeast wind combined with the northern edge of the tropical convergence zone and high-level easterly wind disturbances causing wind convergence in a narrow area in Nghe An and Ha Tinh.

The meteorological agency forecasts that from tonight to tomorrow morning (September 20), the Nghe An - Ha Tinh area will continue to experience moderate rain, heavy rain and thunderstorms, with locally very heavy rain with common rainfall of 40 - 80mm, especially in the East of these 2 provinces, there is a possibility of rain over 200mm.

The area from Quang Tri to Hue city has moderate rain, heavy rain and thunderstorms with common rainfall of 20 - 50mm, locally very heavy rain over 100mm.
