The meteorological agency has warned localities at risk of flash floods and landslides tonight, May 29, due to the impact of heavy rain.

According to the bulletin issued at 8:30 p.m. from the National Center for Hydro-Meteorological Forecasting, in the past 24 hours (from 7:00 p.m. on May 28 to 7:00 p.m. on May 29), the provinces in the Northern region have had moderate to heavy rain, such as:

Tam Thanh (Phu Tho) 209.8mm; Tan Minh (Lang Son) 180.9mm; Yen Binh (Yen Bai) 136.2mm; Cach Linh (Cao Bang) 119.3mm; Tam Da (Tuyen Quang) 106.2mm; Dong Lac (Bac Kan) 100mm; Ban Ho (Lao Cai) 83.8mm; Tan Pheo (Hoa Binh) 138.6mm;...

In the past 6 hours (from 1pm to 7pm on May 29), the Central provinces from Thanh Hoa to Binh Thuan and the Central Highlands region have had moderate to heavy rain such as: Xuan Le (Thanh Hoa) 119.6mm; Lam Hoa (Quang Binh) 113mm; Son Nham (Quang Ngai) 85.2mm; Ku Ke (Binh Thuan) 113.8mm; An Hung (Binh Dinh) 76.8mm; Son Hoi (Phu Yen) 68.6mm; Suoi Dau Dam (Khanh Hoa) 64mm; Cu Di Dele Mekong (Dak Lak) 110mm; Chu Gu (Gia Lai) 98mm; Dak Man (Kon Tum) 64.6mm;...

Soil moisture models show that some areas in the above provinces are nearly saturated (over 85%) or have reached a saturated state.

In the next 3 - 6 hours, the Northern provinces will have a common rainfall of 15mm, some places over 40mm. In Hoa Binh province, there will be local rainfall of 30 - 60mm, some places over 80mm.

The Central region and the Central Highlands have common rainfall from 40 - 70mm, some places over 90mm.

In the next 6 hours, there is a risk of flash floods on small rivers and streams, landslides on steep slopes in many districts.

The warning level of natural disaster risk due to flash floods, landslides, and land subsidence due to heavy rain or water flow is level 1.

Flash floods and landslides can have a very negative impact on the environment, threatening people's lives; causing local traffic congestion, affecting the movement of vehicles; destroying civil and economic works, causing damage to production activities and socio-economic activities.

The meteorological agency recommends that local authorities pay attention to reviewing bottlenecks and vulnerable locations in the area to take preventive and response measures.
