According to data from the National Center for Hydro-Meteorological Forecasting, last night and this morning (May 29), the mountainous and midland areas of the North, South Central, Central Highlands and the South had moderate rain, heavy rain and thunderstorms, locally very heavy rain.
Rainfall from 7pm on May 28 to 8am on May 29 was over 130mm in some places such as: Dao San (Lai Chau) 225.3mm, Tam Thanh (Phu Tho) 209.8mm, Tan Minh (Lang Son) 172.6mm, Giap Dat (Hoa Binh) 138.6mm, Van Binh (Khanh Hoa) 135.8mm, My Xuan (Ba Ria - Vung Tau) 156.6mm,...
Mr. Nguyen Huu Thanh - Deputy Head of Weather Forecast Department, National Center for Hydro-Meteorological Forecasting said that today and tonight, May 29, many areas across the country will have rain.
The Northern and North Central regions from May 29 to early morning of May 30 are forecast to have moderate rain, heavy rain and thunderstorms, locally very heavy rain with common rainfall from 30 - 70mm, locally over 150mm.
"We continue to warn of the risk of local heavy rain (rainfall greater than 100mm within 3 hours)" - Mr. Thanh said.
According to Mr. Mai Van Khiem - Director of the National Center for Hydro-Meteorological Forecasting, in recent days, the Northern region, especially the mountainous provinces, has continuously experienced thunderstorms. Many places have saturated, causing the risk of flash floods on small rivers and streams and landslides to increase.

Mr. Khiem also specifically warned that during this rain, local rain with high intensity will increase the risk of flash floods and landslides.
This rain is not only due to wind convergence, but also the interaction of cold air masses from the north suppressing the trough and interacting with hot and humid air masses. This conflict makes the atmospheric state more unstable, leading to the possibility of thunderstorms, tornadoes, lightning, and strong gusts of wind during the rain.
"We also pay special attention to the possibility of flooding in low-lying areas, urban areas, industrial parks in the Northern and North Central regions" - Mr. Khiem advised.
Real-time warning information for areas at risk of flash floods and landslides is provided online on the website of the Department of Hydrometeorology at: https://luquetsatlo.nchmf.gov.vn and in a separate bulletin warning of flash floods and landslides.
In the South Central, Central Highlands and Southern regions on the day and night of May 29, there is a forecast of moderate rain, heavy rain and thunderstorms, locally very heavy rain with common rainfall of 20 - 60mm, locally over 120mm. Concentrated rain in the afternoon and night.
In the Central Central region in the afternoon and night of May 29, there will be scattered showers and thunderstorms, locally heavy rain with rainfall of 15 - 30mm, some places over 60mm.
The National Center for Hydro-Meteorological Forecasting predicts that from May 30, heavy rain in the above areas will tend to decrease.
Regarding the hydrological situation, from today (May 29) to May 30, on the Thao River, the Lo River, and small rivers in the Northern region and Thanh Hoa, there is a possibility of a flood, with a flood amplitude of 2 - 4m on the rivers. During this flood, flood peaks on small rivers and upstream rivers are likely to rise to alert level 1 and above alert level 1. The downstream water level of major rivers is still below alert level 1.
