On September 23, Binh Thuan Irrigation Works Exploitation One Member Limited Liability Company announced the operation of water regulation through spillways at Song Quao, Song Khan, Suoi Da and Ba Bau reservoirs.
In recent days, the upstream area of reservoirs in eastern Lam Dong has continuously had heavy rain. It is forecasted that in the coming time, the water flow to the reservoirs is likely to continue to increase.
At Song Quao reservoir (Ham Thuan Bac commune), by 7:00 AM on September 23, the reservoir water level was at an elevation of +88.84m, lower than the normal water level by 1.33m and continued to increase.
To ensure the safety of the project and reduce the risk of flooding for the downstream area when there is heavy rain, the irrigation company announced that it will regulate water through the Song Quao reservoir spillway from 4:00 PM on September 23.
The regulated water flow downstream is expected to be from 10-50m3/s, depending on the water inflow to the reservoir. After that, based on the inflow to the reservoir and the downstream situation, the unit will increase the flow to 50-100m3/s.
Before opening the spillway and adjusting to increase the flow, the Key Management Station and Song Quao Main Canal will coordinate to notify the locality to proactively inform people.
Also in Ham Thuan Bac commune, Song Khan reservoir was announced to operate regulation through the spillway from 4:00 PM on September 23. The total expected water flow regulated downstream is from 2-20m3/s.
In case the weather and water flow to the reservoir become complicated, and the regulating flow must be increased, the company will notify units and people to proactively respond.
At Suoi Da Lake, belonging to Hong Son and Ham Thuan Bac communes, the regulation through the spillway was announced to start from 2:00 PM on September 23rd, with a flow rate of 3-5m3/s. Depending on the water flow to the lake and downstream situation, the flow rate may increase to 5-20m3/s.
For Ba Bau Lake in Ham Thanh commune, the company previously opened a maximum of 3 spillway gates from July 10 to proactively lower the water level during the rainy and flood season.
Due to continuous rain upstream of the reservoir, increased water inflow to the reservoir and forecasts of heavy rain, the company announced that it will open up to 2 more spillway gates from 4 pm on September 23. Increasing the total number of spillway gates opened at Ba Bau reservoir to 5 gates.
The water flow through the Ba Bau reservoir spillway is expected to be about 112m3/s at the current water level and about 150m3/s when the reservoir water level reaches the normal water level.
