Expecting to end the fear of fresh water shortage
Recorded on July 8 at the Lac Dia freshwater reservoir project (Tan Xuan commune, Vinh Long province) with a total investment of more than 352 billion VND, it is gradually taking shape after a period of urgent construction. When completed, the project will increase freshwater storage capacity, contribute to responding to drought and saltwater intrusion, and ensure water sources for living and production.
As a person who has lived in the locality for many years, Mr. Vo Van Kha said that every dry season is also the time when his family is worried about domestic water sources. Prolonged droughts and salinity make it difficult to find fresh water, and living costs increase significantly.
According to Mr. Kha, previously each time buying a tank of about 2,000 liters of water cost more than 100,000 VND. This amount of water is only enough for about 4-5 days, at most it only lasts for a week, so the family always has to calculate to save every little water.
We only hope the lake will be completed soon to have stable fresh water. With water sources right in the locality, people will be less vất vả, and there will be no more scenes of running to buy water every time saline intrusion appears," Mr. Kha shared.

Not only serving daily life, people expect that when the Lac Dia freshwater reservoir project is completed, it will create a stable water source for agricultural production. This is considered an important factor to help many households boldly invest and improve farming efficiency in increasingly clear climate change conditions.
Cultivating more than 4,000m2 of fruit trees including coconuts, jackfruit, and mangoes, Mr. Ho Thanh Tuan said that for many years, whenever the water is soil-contaminated, the garden is affected. In particular, jackfruit is often small in fruit, stiff, and yield and quality are reduced, so the selling price is not high.
According to Mr. Tuan, when the freshwater reservoir is completed, crops will be irrigated with stable water sources, develop better, and fruit quality will be improved. This not only helps increase income but also creates motivation for people to feel secure in sticking with agricultural production.
Urgently complete the final items
To date, the Lac Dia freshwater reservoir project has basically completed more than 90% of the construction volume. The main items have been completed, the construction unit is focusing on implementing corridors, sidewalks, drainage systems, green trees and auxiliary items.
Mr. Le Thanh Tong - representative of the construction unit - said that the construction site is mobilizing manpower and equipment to speed up the progress of the remaining tasks. The main items have been completed, currently only the landscape, technical infrastructure and some auxiliary items are being completed.
According to Mr. Tong, with the current progress, the construction unit strives to complete all items in September. The organization of construction is implemented synchronously to ensure the quality of the project before handing over and putting it into operation.

Mr. Nguyen Cao Dung - Project Management and Operation Department 2, Vinh Long Provincial Agricultural Project Management Board - said that the Lac Dia freshwater reservoir project includes 3 reservoirs. Reservoir No. 2 alone has a water surface area of about 60ha, with a capacity of about 2.3 million m3.
According to Mr. Dung, when put into use, the project will provide fresh water to serve people in Ba Tri district and part of Giong Trom district before the merger, contributing to proactively responding to drought, saltwater intrusion and ensuring water security.
In the coming time, the Vinh Long Provincial Agricultural Project Management Board will continue to invest in building a water plant to exploit water sources from the lake, supplying domestic water to communes in the area, and gradually complete water supply infrastructure to serve people.
