According to the National Center for Hydro-Meteorological Forecasting, the Department of Hydro-Meteorology, in the first 5 months of the year, the Northern, North Central - Central Central and Southern regions generally have a total rainfall 15 - 30% higher than the average of many years, some places over 80% (such as Bai Thuong - Thanh Hoa 638mm compared to the average of many years, 416mm).
Regarding the development of this year's rainy season, according to Mr. Nguyen Van Huong - Head of Weather Forecasting Department, National Center for Hydro-Meteorological Forecasting, the rainy season in the North is expected to last from June to September. In particular, heavy rain will be concentrated for you from July, August, September.

"During the peak period of rainfall in the North, the risk of flash floods and landslides in the midlands and northern mountainous areas will be very high" - Mr. Huong said.
According to Mr. Huong, the total rainfall forecast for this year in the North from June to October tends to be approximately the same as the average of many years. In November, total rainfall tends to be lower than the average of many years.
Mr. Hoang Van Dai - Deputy Director of the National Center for Hydro-Meteorological Forecasting said that for the midland and mountainous areas of Vietnam, from 2023 to present, the meteorological agency has also deployed a warning information system according to the time of flash floods and landslides.

"This is a very important information system and is updated every hour, covering all provinces in the midland and mountainous region of Vietnam. With this system, we are giving detailed warnings to the commune level. People and local authorities can refer to this system" - Mr. Dai said.
"The rainy season in the Central region is later than in the North, concentrated around the end of the year, from September to November, possibly in December. We pay special attention to the phenomenon of short-term rain with high intensity, within three hours it can be over 100mm" - Mr. Nguyen Van Huong said.
Meanwhile, the southwest monsoon is active and the rainy season in the Central Highlands and the South has begun. These two areas will have concentrated rain from June to August.
During the upcoming flood peak, Mr. Hoang Van Dai recommended that people need to remember three important things.
First, people should remember official information channels on natural disaster forecasting and warnings such as websites and Zalo of authorities.
Second, it is necessary to clearly understand which shelters are safer in your living area to move when necessary.
Third, natural disasters during the flood season often come unexpectedly in a short time, so it is necessary to prepare necessary items such as flashlights, food, drinking water, and medicine.
In addition, it is necessary to implement "three stands ready" to be ready to evacuate when requested by the authorities; ready to support each other, especially households living near each other; ready to strictly comply with the orders and instructions of local natural disaster prevention forces.
