On September 3, Tan Thanh Commune Police (Lam Dong province) said they had just received a long-tailed macaque individual voluntarily handed over by people.
The handover person is Mr. Nguyen Thanh Ly, 34 years old, residing in Tan Thanh commune. The monkey weighs about 6kg.
Tan Thanh Commune Police coordinated with Ham Thuan Nam Forest Protection Department to inspect and determined that this was a long-tailed macaque, scientific name Macaca fascicularis, belonging to the List of endangered, precious, and rare forest animals of Group IIB.
After completing the reception procedures, Tan Thanh Commune Police handed over the monkey to the Economic Department, Tan Thanh Commune People's Committee to coordinate with functional agencies to care for and monitor its health.
When conditions are met, functional agencies will carry out procedures to re-release the monkey individual back to the natural environment suitable to the ecological characteristics of the species.
According to Tan Thanh Commune Police, Mr. Ly's proactive handover of wildlife shows the awareness of law compliance and responsibility of people in protecting wildlife, contributing to biodiversity conservation.
