On June 13, Binh Thuan Ward Police (Lam Dong) said that they had coordinated with functional agencies to complete procedures and release a peacock individual back to the natural environment handed over by people.
Previously, on June 10, Binh Thuan Ward Police coordinated with the Ward People's Committee and Ham Thuan Bac Forest Protection Department to receive a peacock individual voluntarily handed over by Ms. Vo Thi Xuan Thuan (41 years old, residing in Xuan Phu neighborhood, Binh Thuan ward).
After receiving it, functional forces checked the health, cared for and monitored the condition of the individual bird before proceeding to release it back into the natural environment.
According to functional agencies, the individual submitted is a peacock (scientific name Pavo muticus), belonging to group IB in the list of endangered, precious, and rare forest animals prioritized for protection.
This is a wild animal species that is threatened with extinction, strictly prohibited from exploitation, hunting, captivation and use for commercial purposes according to the provisions of law.
The fact that people proactively hand over rare and precious wild animals to functional agencies contributes to protecting biodiversity, while spreading the sense of responsibility of the community in the conservation of wild animal species.
