Lam Dong - Discovering a golden mountain turtle while gardening, people in Bao Lam 2 commune proactively handed it over to functional agencies to release it into nature.

On July 31, Bao Lam 2 Commune Police said that the unit coordinated with Bao Loc Forest Protection Department and the Commune People's Committee to receive and successfully release a golden mountain turtle back to its natural environment.

Previously, while gardening, Mr. Nguyen Van Dung (54 years old, residing in Loc An 1 village, Bao Lam 2 commune) discovered a golden mountain turtle weighing about 2kg.

Realizing that this is a wild animal that needs to be protected, he proactively contacted the Commune Police to hand it over.

After receiving it, functional forces inspected, made a record and completed the procedures according to regulations. Through assessment, the turtle individual met the living conditions, so it was released back to its natural environment.

The golden mountain turtle (scientific name Indotestudo elongata) belongs to the list of endangered, precious, and rare forest animals of group IIB; and is also listed in the Vietnam Red Book and IUCN Red List with a threatened status.

According to Bao Lam 2 Commune Police, people's voluntary handover of wild animals contributes to biodiversity conservation, while spreading awareness of law compliance and nature protection in the community.

Functional agencies recommend that when people discover wild animals, they should notify local authorities, forest rangers or police for guidance on handling; absolutely do not hunt, raise, raise, trade, transport or consume wild animals illegally.
