This afternoon, July 8, a clip circulated on social networks recording the scene of a water cannon tens of meters high appearing in Hung Yen province.
According to video images recorded, a very clear tornado column, with a black-gray funnel shape. This gas column extends from dense, dark thunderstorm clouds above down to the ground surface. When moving through empty areas, the tornadoes carry dust into the air.
The clip after being posted quickly attracted thousands of views, shares and comments. Many people commented that this is a rare weather phenomenon in this area. Many opinions believe that this is a sign that the weather is becoming increasingly extreme and unusual.
Talking to a reporter from Lao Dong Newspaper, a representative of the National Center for Hydro-Meteorological Forecasting said that the Northern region is affected by a low pressure trough.
Quang Ninh, Hai Phong, coastal areas of Hung Yen, Ninh Binh are affected by low pressure troughs and low whirlpools right above the Northern region. From there, dense convective clouds are formed right above the eastern coastal area of the Northern region. In this area, there are strong convective zones, the waterspout phenomenon in the Hung Yen sea area (old Thai Binh) is located in the convective zone created by this low pressure trough.
Previously, in forecast bulletins and warnings from the National Center for Hydro-Meteorological Forecasting, there were warnings about thunderstorms in the coastal sea area of the Gulf of Tonkin, including warnings about the possibility of tornadoes, strong gusts of wind and large waves.
The meteorological agency added that it is forecast that in the period from now until the end of July 11, a low pressure trough with its axis passing through the Northern region will continue to operate, causing moderate rain and widespread heavy rain in the midland and mountainous areas of the North, Quang Ninh province. The Gulf of Tonkin area in the next 2 days will also have strong thunderstorms, and in thunderstorms, it is necessary to prevent the possibility of tornadoes, whirlwinds and strong gusts of wind.
Response measures when water cannons appear
Also according to the meteorological agency, a tornado is a very strong whirlwind phenomenon, with a very small diameter, pulling from the surface of the earth or sea to a hail cloud, forming the shape of a mobile funnel. On the way it moves, it can sweep away (and then throw it down a long distance later) or destroy everything, including fragile brick houses, so it is a particularly dangerous meteorological phenomenon.
