According to information from the Bai Tu Long National Park Management Board, this unit has just completed the fourth phase of wildlife monitoring in 2024 at the main island clusters of Bai Tu Long National Park, Van Don district, Quang Ninh province.
The total of 11 monitoring routes are divided into 3 areas, including: Tra Ngo - Cai Lim island area with 3 monitoring routes; Northern half of Ba Mun island area with 4 monitoring routes; Southern half of Ba Mun island area with 4 monitoring routes. The routes have an average length of 3 - 5 km depending on each monitoring route.
On the Tra Ngo - Cai Lim island cluster, a total of 20 traces of wild animals were collected. In this area, the monitoring team also encountered traces of many wild animals, including 3 species listed in the Vietnam Red Book: long-tailed macaque (Macaca fascicularis), wild boar (Sus scrofa), civet (Chrotogale owstoni) and some other wild animals such as squirrels (Sciuridae), bats (Chiroptera), and civet birds (Centropus sinensis).
For the routes in the northern half of Ba Mun Island, the monitoring team collected 33 traces of wild animals, including 3 species listed in the Vietnam Red Book, namely wild boar (Sus scrofa), civet (Viverridae), deer (Rusa unicolor) and some other forest animals such as viper (Ovophis monticola), iguana (Viverricula indica), porcupine (Hystrix brachyura subcristata Swinhoe)...
At the routes in the southern half of Ba Mun Island, the monitoring team collected 49 traces of wild animals of many species, including 5 rare animals listed in the Vietnam Red Book, such as: Wild boar (Sus scrofa), deer (Rusa unicolor), civet (Viverridae), long-tailed macaque (Macaca fascicularis), gecko (Gekko gecko) and some other forest animals such as squirrel (Sciuridae), cuckoo bird (Centropus sinensis), starling (Sturnidae), salamander (Viverricula indica).
According to the Management Board of Bai Tu Long National Park, monitoring wildlife on the islands of Bai Tu Long National Park is a regular task. The results of animal monitoring sessions serve as a basis for determining the number of wildlife species, especially those listed in the Vietnam Red Book, in the Park, and at the same time proposing solutions to manage wild animals here.
