The Center for Geodetic and Environmental Monitoring has taken air samples in the Nghia Ky Domestic Waste Treatment Plant area and surrounding residential areas for monitoring.
On May 16, the Center for Geodetic and Environmental Monitoring (under the Quang Ngai Department of Agriculture and Rural Development) took air samples at the Nghia Ky Household Waste Treatment Plant area, in Nghia Giang commune.

The Center has also taken air samples in residential areas 1 - 2.5 km from the Nghia Ky domestic waste treatment plant area, belonging to An Dinh and An Tan villages (Phuoc Giang commune), and An Hoi Nam 2 village (Nghia Giang commune).
According to Mr. Nguyen Duc Trung - Deputy Director of Quang Ngai Department of Agriculture and Rural Development, implementing the direction of provincial leaders, the sector has urgently completed the sampling for monitoring. Sampling is not only concentrated in the landfill area but also in residential areas. Monitoring results are expected to be available no later than May 18, 2026.
The sampling and monitoring is to assess the level of environmental impact after the fire occurred in the premises of Nghia Ky Waste Treatment Plant. From there, promptly publicize information so that people can understand clearly and propose further handling solutions," Mr. Nguyen Duc Trung emphasized.
As Lao Dong Newspaper reported, at about 1 pm on May 14, a fire broke out in the temporary garbage pit area of the Northern Waste Treatment Plant invested by Northern Construction Investment and Development Joint Stock Company. The fire caused many people living nearby to worry about the risk of affecting the air environment.
By this morning (May 16), after nearly 2 days of active firefighting, the fire was completely extinguished.
