Corporate social responsibility
Environmental protection is one of the urgent and long-term issues. This is an important factor in ensuring the quality of life. Ensuring environmental security is a premise for sustainable economic development.
Vietnam is an agricultural country in the process of industrialization and modernization, however, Vietnam is also facing many serious environmental problems. Currently, we are facing ecological environmental hazards under the impact of industrialization and modernization and climate change. Our country's nature is currently being destroyed by unconscious activities, arbitrary and irresponsible attitudes, and lack of planning in the exploitation and use of natural resources.
Faced with these challenges, Mr. Vu Van Minh - Head of the Department of Legal Policy and Labor Relations, Vietnam Electricity Trade Union said that Vietnam Electricity Group (EVN) with the orientation of becoming a responsible enterprise to the community, "safe, green and clean production", so safety and environmental work is extremely important, must always pay special attention anytime, anywhere.
Recognizing this issue, in recent years, through communication activities and other specific activities, environmental protection work carried out by Vietnam Electricity Group and Vietnam Electricity Trade Union has achieved many positive results.
"EVN has organized many training conferences to continue to disseminate and guide the implementation of new regulations of the law on environmental protection, and at the same time review the situation and results of the implementation of new regulations by units in the past time," Mr. Vu Van Minh shared.
In recent times, EVN has organized tree planting movements, responded to Earth Hour, classified waste and said no to plastic waste,...
Realizing the "dual goal"
Currently, Vietnam is in the process of industrialization and modernization, but the majority of imported equipment and production machines are previous generation machines with high power consumption. For Vietnam Electricity Group, with the task of ensuring energy security for socio-economic development. Along with that task, EVN also always aims at environmental protection.
To meet the demand for electricity, EVN and other enterprises have had to invest in building many thermal power plants (coal-fired thermal power, gas-fired thermal power), hydropower, wind power, and solar power. These types of power sources have a certain impact on the general ecological environment.
In the process of investing in construction, production, and transmission of electricity to reduce negative impacts on the ecological environment, investors, managers, and employees in the industry must be aware of environmental protection. Vietnam Electricity Trade Union always accompanies professionals and employees in environmental protection work.
Aiming at sustainable development, Vietnam Electricity Group has resolutely directed and thoroughly implemented member units to synchronously implement solutions to combine production with environmental protection. Coal-fired thermal power plants have all been invested in modern environmental technology and have been given a green, clean, and beautiful appearance.
"EVN has seriously implemented environmental management measures throughout the investment and construction stages of the project until the plants come into operation; invested in modern technology to treat circulating water, exhaust gas, and ash and slag," Mr. Vu Van Minh emphasized.
All EVN thermal power plants have invested in building wastewater collection and treatment systems to ensure compliance with QCVN 40:2011/BTNMT for industrial wastewater and QCVN 14:2008/BTNMT for domestic wastewater before being discharged into the environment. Wastewater after treatment meets the standards and is partially reused, returning to the production process.
For emissions from power plants, EVN has invested in specialized systems for electrostatic dust filtration, NOx and SO2 removal. In the 5 years from 2016 to 2020, the results of monitoring environmental parameters at the plants almost all met Vietnamese standards on emissions and wastewater.
On December 12, Lao Dong Newspaper organized the 2024 Workers and Laborers for the Environment Forum. The forum analyzed the role of workers in business and production activities of enterprises associated with environmental protection. At the same time, it honored community, worker, and laborer initiatives in environmental protection, towards green and sustainable development.
