At the training session, experts shared a lot of useful information with experts such as: current status and policies on household waste management, experiences and solutions to reduce waste from international to Vietnamese countries, Waste classification roadmap at source of Hanoi city.
In addition, teachers and students also practice classifying waste at source according to technical instructions from the Ministry of Natural Resources and Environment.
According to the provisions of the Law on Environmental Protection, no later than December 31, 2024, localities will officially classify waste at source.
In Hanoi, statistics from Hanoi Urban Environment Company Limited show that every day the city has about 7000-7500 tons of household waste, on average each person generates 0.8kg/day. , most of Hanoi's household waste is treated by sanitary landfill methods, a small part is used as input material for waste incineration plants to generate electricity.
Hanoi is piloting the model of waste classification at source in 23 wards of 5 districts, moving towards replication in 30 districts and towns by 2026.
The organizers hope that after the training session, teachers and students will be equipped with skills to classify waste at source; From there, share and spread this useful action in schools, families and communities.
Journalist Phung Cong Suong - Editor-in-Chief of Tien Phong Newspaper cited statistics showing that if waste classification is done well at source, it will help reduce 60-75% of food waste, and 15-20% of waste. As recyclable waste, only about 25-30% of waste has to be buried or processed at factories, bringing great efficiency to the environment and human health.
“Segregating waste at source brings great efficiency. Studies have shown that classification helps reduce the amount of waste released into the environment, saves on collection, transportation, and treatment costs, and increases the amount of waste that can be recycled and reused. From there, reduce the amount of waste that must be buried or burned, save land resources and reduce environmental pollution" - Mr. Suong said.
Sharing at the training session, Mr. Nguyen Nhu Tung - Deputy Head of the Department of Education and Training of Ba Dinh District (Hanoi) affirmed that after the training, he will direct schools in the district to promote waste classification at source according to new regulations. , ensuring readiness when the city deploys waste separation at source throughout the district.
