On the morning of March 5, Quang Truc Commune People's Committee (Lam Dong) said that the locality had just coordinated with Dak Zen Forest Ranger Station to receive a rare Java pangolin individual voluntarily handed over by people to re-release to the natural environment. This individual weighs about 5kg and is in stable health.
The handover person is Mr. Vu Van Chong (from Dong Nai, currently gardening in Quang Truc commune).
According to Mr. Chong, the pangolin individual came from the cattle garden to his family's house in the Long Son area (Quang Truc commune). After discovering it, he proactively contacted the forest rangers to hand it over according to regulations.
Java pangolins (Manis javanica) are endangered, precious, and rare forest animals belonging to Group IB, which are strictly protected by Vietnamese law.
Currently, functional agencies are completing dossiers and procedures to re-release pangolins to the natural environment.
According to the leader of Quang Truc Commune People's Committee, in the context of many wild animal species decreasing in number, the actions of the people show the effectiveness of propaganda and mobilization to protect forests in the area.
