Lao Dong newspaper reported on the situation of hundreds of heavy trucks carrying rocks every day destroying residential roads in Thanh Cong 1 village, Thanh Long commune (Ham Yen district, Tuyen Quang), causing people to fear traffic safety and environmental pollution.
Through investigation, the trucks circulating in Thanh Cong 1 village originated from the quarry of Hoang Son Construction and Transport Company Limited (Hoang Son Company). This quarry was licensed by the People's Committee of Tuyen Quang province in 2022 on an area of over 40 hectares.
According to the reporter's records on the morning of December 25, within only 20 minutes of being present at the electronic weighing station at the Hoang Son Company's quarry, there were dozens of trucks and tractors coming in and out to get stone. Most of the trucks had stones stacked horizontally on the sides of the crates and were poorly covered.
Notably, many trucks passing through the electronic weighing station to control their weight before leaving the mine were found to be 50 to 100% overloaded.
For example, at 10:00 a.m., the truck with license plate 19H 002.58 weighed more than 40 tons, while the vehicle was only allowed to carry a maximum of 16.7 tons with a total body weight of 31 tons.
After leaving the quarry, the convoy crossed the destroyed residential road of Thanh Cong 1 village and headed to National Highway 2. Some vehicles headed back towards the center of Ham Yen district, while the rest headed towards Tuyen Quang city to the construction sites.
On the morning of December 25, speaking with reporters, Major Tran Tien Dung - Captain of the Traffic Police Team (Ham Yen District Police) confirmed that the unit had handled several cases of trucks violating traffic laws coming out of the Hoang Son Company's mine.
However, many hours after the reporter provided information about the overloaded vehicles in operation, there was still no appearance or inspection by the functional forces of Ham Yen district, even though the Thanh Cong 1 village road is only more than 5km from the district center.
Meanwhile, on the quarry side, a leader of Hoang Son Company informed the reporter: "That place has been reported many times, we just operate properly, now if there is more feedback, the district will come to verify."
The mineral exploitation license granted to Hoang Son Company clearly states: "The transported goods must have the correct permitted load, not affecting the environment or traffic routes".
In addition, the authorities of Ham Yen district and Tuyen Quang province have also urged businesses to sign a commitment to comply with regulations on the load capacity of mineral transport vehicles when leaving the mine. However, these matters have been left unanswered.
It is known that in the first quarter of 2025, Ham Yen district will repair and pour concrete on the road from National Highway 2 to Thanh Cong 1 village leading to Thanh Long commune People's Committee with a budget of about 19 billion VND. This is the dream of hundreds of households. However, with heavy trucks plowing, people are worried that this concrete road worth tens of billions will not last for a few months.
