Platelets have a very short shelf life, only 3 to 5 days, while the 2025 Lunar New Year holiday lasts up to 9 days, causing many hospitals in Quang Ngai to not be able to reserve enough platelets for the entire holiday. Therefore, during the Tet holidays, it is extremely important for people to come and donate platelets to help patients.
With the spirit of volunteerism and community awareness, the Mobile Police Department of Quang Ngai Provincial Police organized the program "Red Spring of Love" to participate in donating platelets to save people during Tet. About 60 union members, officers and soldiers voluntarily participated in the program, choosing to start the spring with the meaningful act of donating blood at the beginning of the year.
Senior Lieutenant Nguyen Quang Hai - Secretary of the Youth Union of the Mobile Police Department of Quang Ngai Provincial Police shared: "When there is a patient in need of platelets, Quang Ngai Provincial General Hospital will directly contact the Organizing Committee of the program 'Xuan Hong Yeu Thuong'. The officers will be on duty 24/7 to promptly mobilize members to come to the hospital to donate platelets and save lives."
In previous years, many people were afraid to donate platelets during the traditional Tet holiday because they believed it would bring bad luck, but in recent years, this belief has gradually changed. Donating blood to save lives has become a habit, a noble act every time Tet comes and spring comes.
Dr. Huynh Thi Thuan - Deputy Director of Quang Ngai Provincial General Hospital shared: “We are very confident to have a reserve blood donation team from the Mobile Police Department of Quang Ngai Provincial Police during the 2025 Lunar New Year. This is special for Quang Ngai province, because not every province has such timely support. Platelets and blood are always guaranteed, helping to save the lives of many patients.”
Each time donating blood, participants not only hope to bring a lucky gift to the patient, but also bring joy to the community and to themselves. This is the noble message of the program "Spring of Love".
