Raising children in the digital age, parents need to help children be proactive and know how to protect themselves

QUỲNH NHƯ |

In the digital age, raising children poses many challenges when children can become passive, struggling with change or silent when hurt online.

AI abuse makes young people easily passive

In a competitive working environment and with increasingly developed artificial intelligence (AI), proactiveness is an important factor helping young people seize opportunities. However, being too dependent on technology can make a part of young people lazy to think, afraid of challenges and encounter difficulties in handling real-life situations.

Passiveness stems from the psychology of dependence due to being overprotected by the family, dependence on technology and fear of making mistakes," said M.A. Vu Nhat Tan - Faculty of Culture and Communication, Ho Chi Minh City University of Culture.

Many young people abuse AI to quickly solve work, thereby being lazy to think. The pressure of peers and successful role models on social networks can also make them feel insecure and withdrawn because they are afraid of bearing the consequences.

To overcome this, experts recommend that young people practice concentration, make clear work plans and prioritize important tasks. At the same time, it is necessary to control social media usage time, starting from simple things to form positive habits and self-confidence.

Learn to adapt to changes

Besides passivity, changing the working environment, taking on new roles or facing unexpected events can also make people anxious, afraid of failure and afraid of judgment from others.

Psychologist Vo Kim Ha - NHC Vietnam Center for Human Development and Psychology said that worrying about the new is a normal reaction.

The important thing is to cultivate discipline and flexible thinking. Adaptation does not mean losing core values, but can start with new habits that are suitable for the goal," psychologist Vo Kim Ha shared.

Experts advise each person not to create pressure to integrate immediately. Instead, it is necessary to spend time observing, accepting factors that are out of control and focusing on adjusting things that may change.

Parents accompany when children are bullied online

Cyberspace brings many benefits but also hides the risk of online bullying. Offensive, malicious, isolating or defamatory comments can spread quickly. Many children choose to remain silent for fear of being scolded by their parents or forbidden from using their phones.

MSc Pham Thi Bich Phuong - Psychologist said that online bullying can make children afraid, lose focus and doubt their self-worth. Signs may be that children suddenly withdraw, lock the door, decline in their studies or are always in a state of anxiety. If prolonged, psychological trauma can lead to trauma, anxiety disorders, and even severe depression.

According to MSc. Nguyen Thi Ngoc Vui - Psychologist, when discovering the incident, parents need to be calm to become a safe support for their children. Families should guide children to keep "digital traces" as evidence and coordinate with schools or functional agencies to handle it.

Instead of banning children from accessing the Internet, parents need to equip their children with skills to protect personal information, report violations and keep evidence when being attacked online.
