Tuyen Quang - All foundations of An Hoa bridge over the Lo River are exposed every dry season and are showing signs of increasing.
The situation of An Hoa bridge located on provincial road 186, connecting Binh Ca commune and Binh Thuan ward, Tuyen Quang province, showing exposed pile foundations has appeared for many years and can be clearly observed when the water level of the Lo river drops. Photo: Viet Bac.Recorded on December 16, although not the time when the water level of the Lo River dropped to its lowest, all 3 main pillars of the An Hoa bridge over the river have exposed the pile foundations. Photo: Viet Bac.The structure of the piles supporting the foundations of the An Hoa bridge piers designed to be located deep under the riverbed is now open, and can be observed with the naked eye when the soil and protective sand layer is no longer there. Photo: Viet Bac.Due to the lack of protective sand and soil, many large rocks and garbage were dumped directly at the bridge foundation. Mr. Le Van Tuan (Binh Ca commune) said that in recent years, the Lo River has often had major floods, the erosion of the An Hoa bridge foundation has made people very worried. Photo: Viet Bac.According to local people, in the past nearly 10 years, when mining activities in the area above and below An Hoa bridge have been taking place vigorously, the bridge foundation has begun to erode, the bank of the landslide has been devastated. Photo: Viet Bac.Many large excavators and dredgers digging deep into the Lo River near the foot of An Hoa Bridge have made people worry about the increased risk of erosion of bridge piers. Photo: Viet Bac.Informing reporters, a leader of the Department of Construction of Tuyen Quang province said that the unit had conducted an inspection and examination, initially determining that the foundation structure of An Hoa Bridge did not affect the quality of the project. Photo: Viet Bac.According to the leader of the Department of Construction of Tuyen Quang province, one of the reasons is that sand and gravel mining activities cause the riverbed to drop. Previously, the bridge management was assigned to the locality, and is now being proposed to be assigned to the Department for management. Photo: Viet Bac.
An Hoa Bridge is located on DT.186 connecting National Highway 2 and National Highway 37 with Long Binh An Industrial Park of Tuyen Quang province. The bridge has been in use since 2006, with a length of 533m and a width of 11m. This is one of the main bridges, with high traffic volume, mainly heavy trucks.
According to construction experts, exposing the bridge foundation for a long time will lead to erosion at the base of the piers, reduce load-bearing capacity and may affect the safety of the project. Especially for bridges that are old and are being exploited with large volumes.
