The Ministry of Construction said that on December 19, 2025, it will coordinate with the People's Committees of the provinces and cities: Lao Cai, Phu Tho, Hanoi, Bac Ninh, Hung Yen and Hai Phong to organize the groundbreaking ceremony of component project 1 of the Lao Cai - Hanoi - Hai Phong railway construction investment project.
The Ministry of Construction said that the central bridge points are located at Lao Cai station (Lao Cai province); the remaining 4 bridge points are at Phu Tho (Phu Tho province), Bac Hong (Hanoi city), Luong Tai (Hung Yen province) and Hai Duong Nam (Hai Phong city) stations.
This is one of the key projects in the series of events to start, inaugurate, and open the technical traffic of 234 projects and works nationwide, with a total investment of more than VND3.4 million billion, to celebrate the 79th anniversary of the National Resistance War (December 19, 1946 - December 19, 2025) and the 14th National Congress of the Party, term 2025 - 2030.
According to the Ministry of Construction, the investment project to build the Lao Cai - Hanoi - Hai Phong railway line has been approved by the National Assembly in Resolution No. 187/2025/QH15 dated February 19, 2025. The project has a total length of the main route of about 390.9 km, branch route of about 27.9 km; single track of 1,435 mm, common transport of passengers and goods.
The design speed reaches 160 km/h for the main route from the new Lao Cai station to Nam Hai Phong station; 120 km/h for the section passing through the Hanoi city hub and 80 km/h for the remaining sections.
The route passes through 6 provinces and cities including Lao Cai, Phu Tho, Hanoi, Bac Ninh, Hung Yen and Hai Phong; starting point connecting the railway with the Chinese railway in Lao Cai, ending point at Lach Huyen port station, Cat Hai special zone (Hai Phong city).
The project has a total investment of more than 203,200 billion VND, implemented in the form of public investment, striving to complete by 2030 at the latest.
Of which, component project 1 - investment in infrastructure connecting stations on the route and station square - has a total investment of VND 3,298 billion. The project has completed the preparation, appraisal and approval of the feasibility study report in November 2025; completed the technical design - estimate of the packages at 5 stations in early December 2025; completed the selection of construction contractors and supervision consultants, ready to start construction on December 19, 2025.
The Ministry of Construction said that the groundbreaking of component project 1 is an important first step to realize the goal of building a new modern and synchronous railway line, meeting transportation needs on the East-West economic corridor, enhancing the international transport connection between Vietnam and China, creating momentum to promote socio-economic development, ensuring national defense - security and international integration.
