Over the years, management agencies have experienced in implementing programs, plans and measures to stabilize the market. These activities are very effective, preventing the tricks of "price gouging according to Tet".
This year, the total value of goods prepared to serve the 2026 Binh Ngo Tet in Ho Chi Minh City reached more than 26,000 billion VND, of which more than 9,000 billion VND is market stabilization goods. This figure shows that the supply of Tet goods is not short, even quite abundant. The worry of "out of stock" if any, is mainly psychological, not a market issue.
Therefore, the issue raised is not the shortage of goods serving the Tet market, but the quality and price. Recently, the market has had to pay the price for many types of fake foods, from "breasts", milk, cosmetics, functional foods to medicines. These cases not only cause social outrage but also erode community trust.
People are worried that traders are taking advantage of increased consumer demand during the Tet season to push up prices, mixing in poor quality goods, counterfeit goods, and goods of unknown origin, including foreign liquor, high-end food, and imported labeled products. When consumers find it difficult to distinguish between real and fake, they only know how to rely on functional forces and market management.
Another concern, not new but still topical, is food safety and hygiene.
During Tet, purchasing power increases, consumption increases, and this is also a time when unsafe food is easily smuggled into the market.
Recently, functional agencies in some localities discovered and seized tons of spoiled pork and animal products with a foul odor. This shows that if there is only laxity in control, the consequences will directly spill over onto people's meals.
Therefore, food safety and hygiene need to be put first, not a matter of shortage of goods.
To achieve this, it cannot only depend on the awareness of businesses or the vigilance of consumers, but requires the drastic and continuous management, inspection, and supervision role of local authorities.
Happy Tet will be complete if people do not have to buy expensive goods, clean food and drinks and ensure safety.
