This simple, practical and humane message is spreading from the plains to the mountains.
Instead of brilliant and rapidly fading flower baskets, students in the highlands of Tra Tan commune, Da Nang now have more notebooks, new sets of books, and even a quality meal to enter the school year. For teachers, parents and local authorities, the joy of the opening day does not lie in the appearance, but in the place where they are supported on the journey to sow children's letters. As the Secretary of the Tra Tan Commune Party Committee shared: "Social resources in mountainous areas are limited. When the opening day is no longer flooded with flowers, but instead with practical gifts, students will have more motivation to continue moving forward".
Not only in mountainous areas, but also in central wards, many local leaders have called for no flowers to be presented. The bouquets of flowers become scholarships, teaching equipment, or playgrounds for children. A small action, but brings great social efficiency: economical, practical and touches the heart.
In fact, the policy of "no flowers, no gifts" during major holidays in the locality has just spread after the organization of a two-level local government and merger of provinces. For example, at the grassroots Party congress in Quang Ngai, it was encouraged to give trees and seedlings instead of gifts. Now, that message entering the opening ceremony - the festival of future generations - is even more meaningful.
In particular, the opening ceremony of the 2025-2026 school year took place in the context of the country celebrating the 80th anniversary of the National Day, completing the arrangement of administrative units and starting to implement Resolution 71 of the Politburo on educational breakthroughs. The light, economical, practical innovation from the central to local levels has shown the determination to innovate, eliminating cumbersomeness to focus on core values.
Today's education does not stop at teaching. It must be an environment that nurtures comprehensive human resources, arouses creativity, fosters courage and nurtures great aspirations. Generations of students not only learn to know, to do, but also to live together, to assert themselves in a world of many fluctuations.
Replacing congratulatory flowers with scholarships and books is a social message: education needs the support of everyone. Teachers keep the passion of love for their profession, parents accompany with responsibility, the government and the community create conditions and support. When those links are connected, education will truly become the driving force for development.
The theme of the new school year is "discipline - Creativity - Breakthrough - Development". And right at the opening ceremony, the gifts instead of flower baskets demonstrated that spirit, both maintaining discipline and thrift, being creative in the way of doing things, and breaking through the wear and tear of forms, towards sustainable development.
On the opening day in Da Nang this year, therefore, not only the bustling sound of school drums, but also an emotional reminder, let the most practical things accompany students - so that their learning aspirations are given wings, from the plains to the mountains, from the city to the fields.
