Secretary of Ho Chi Minh City Party Committee Nguyen Van Nen shared the above information at the preliminary conference on judicial reform on August 1.
Secretary Nguyen Van Nen told the story of being impersonated to borrow money to highlight the current situation of fraudulent crimes. He said: "The forces, especially the police, focus on preventing , prevent and destroy this type of crime. People need to increase vigilance to avoid falling into traps, actively cooperate and coordinate with authorities to prevent and stop crimes effectively."
There are too many cases of people impersonating leaders of the police, courts, and procuratorates calling fraudulently, luring them to transfer money, and receiving warnings from the press, but many people still fall into the trap. Some people lose a lot of money, from a few billion dong to tens of billion dong, even hundreds of billion dong. Typically, Ms. Nguyen Thi Giang Huong, former chairwoman of the People's Committee of Nhon Trach district (Dong Nai), was scammed and lost 171 billion VND. In Dong Nai alone, in the first 6 months of 2024, the Provincial Police received and handled 125 cases of cyber fraud and property appropriation with the amount of 325 billion VND.
Information about criminals impersonating police officers and scams is abundant in the media, and the police also warn, but many people still do not keep their guard up and do not know how to protect themselves. Losing money because of being too gullible is very reprehensible.
It is clear that people must protect themselves, but government agencies also have the responsibility to protect people.
That is, it is necessary to organize propaganda to each household so that people know the tricks of scammers, from impersonating state officials, to combining images and sounds, so that people can clearly understand. At this time, it is necessary for organizations such as youth and women to step in and play their role.
Trade union officials closely monitor workers and propagate propaganda so that union members and workers can be wary of today's common scams.
And most importantly, the main boss is the police force. Preventing and pursuing criminals who commit fraud in cyberspace is very difficult, but only the police can do it to protect the people.
We would like to reiterate the instructions of Secretary Nguyen Van Nen: "The forces, especially the police forces, focus on preventing, stopping and destroying this type of crime."
