TikToker No O No (real name Pham Duc Tuan) has just been fined 30 million VND by the Department of Information and Communications of Ho Chi Minh City.
The reason for the fine is that Tuan used the social network account Tiktok "Tuan Khong My" to post video clips with the content "Between Hoang Mobi and Uncle Ho Chi Minh, who would you choose", "Between Le Tuan Khang and Uncle Ho Chi Minh, who would you choose" with images of President Ho Chi Minh.
First of all, it is natural that TikToker No O No will be “fined”. Because using the image and name of President Ho Chi Minh - a national hero - to create controversial content is unacceptable.
Whatever the purpose, inserting historical figures into inappropriate situations shows disrespect and violates social ethics.
This not only sparked public outrage but also negatively affected the nation's cultural and historical image.
Freedom of speech is a fundamental right, but that does not mean individuals are allowed to use it arbitrarily, regardless of moral values and legal regulations.
Next, although the fine for TikToker No O No is very high - 30 million VND, many opinions still disagree with the reason that this is not the first time this TikToker has violated but is a serious recidivism.
Previously, in 2022, TikToker No O No was fined 7.5 million VND by the Ho Chi Minh City Department of Information and Communications after posting a clip with content disparaging the poor on social media.
In addition to punishment, authorities need to add stronger measures such as blocking channels or criminally prosecuting repeat offenders. This is not only to deter No O No but also to set an example for other content creators.
The Oxford Dictionary has just announced “brain rot” as the word of the year 2024. “Brain rot” refers to a decline in intelligence and mental health, especially in children and young people, due to watching too much harmful content online.
“Brain rot” is also a popular word in Vietnam with a similar meaning. And it must be affirmed that the deviant content like the one that was just punished by No O No is also one of the factors causing “brain rot” for today’s youth.
On the other hand, it cannot be denied that part of the reason why TikTokers like No O No continuously create offensive content is due to the attention and support from a segment of users through views, comments and shares.
To build a healthy online environment, not only authorities but also the community itself needs to change their content consumption habits.
Choosing meaningful products and saying no to deviant content is how users show their responsibility!
