Facing difficulties in financial resources
Transportation is the second largest source of greenhouse gas emissions in Vietnam, accounting for 18% of total emissions. This amount of emissions, mainly CO2, NOx, SOx, causes air pollution, affects people's health and hinders sustainable development.
Faced with that reality, the transport sector is making efforts to implement many solutions for green energy conversion, reducing carbon emissions and methane to contribute to environmental protection.
Many transportation businesses are also aware that green conversion is an inevitable choice for survival. However, businesses are still facing many difficulties in the green transformation process such as resources, finance, access to green credit, etc.
Speaking to Lao Dong Newspaper, Mr. Nguyen Quoc Bien - Director of Phuc Thinh Joint Stock Company, said that grasping the increasing demand of customers for green transportation, Que Lua Taxi has accelerated the green transition process, switching from gasoline cars to electric cars.
Mr. Nguyen Quoc Bien said that despite large initial investment, thanks to preferential policies and lower fuel and operating costs, the profit margin of Que Lua taxi has improved significantly.
The number of customers choosing electric taxis is increasing, especially young people and international tourists. Thanks to that, the total revenue of taxi Que Lua also had positive growth. It is expected that by 2028, Que Lua will complete the conversion of 100% of gasoline vehicles to electric vehicles.
However, in the process of switching to electric vehicles, businesses also encountered many difficulties, especially in terms of investment capital.
Our biggest problem is the financial problem. In addition, the unsynchronized charging station infrastructure and limited coverage are also an obstacle, especially when deployed in small provinces and cities. In addition, the change from gasoline vehicles to electric vehicles is not only a matter of vehicles, but also requires adjustment in operation, from driver training to optimizing charging routes" - Mr. Bien shared.
Enterprises need more support policies and supports
In Vietnam, many leading enterprises have been pioneering in green transformation, actively applying solutions to minimize environmental impacts, contributing to the sustainable development goals of the whole society.
Talking to Lao Dong, Mr. Do Manh Truong - Business Director of VinFast Northern region - said that over the past time, the goal of green, sustainable development and becoming the world's leading electric vehicle brand has been set by VinFast since the early days.
As a pioneer in opening the electric vehicle market in Vietnam, our biggest challenge is changing consumer awareness and habits, so that they can switch to using environmentally friendly electric vehicles instead of traditional gasoline and diesel vehicles. Being a pioneer gasoline car company in switching to pure electricity helps VinFast quickly catch up with the latest technology trends in the automotive industry, increase competitiveness and open up opportunities to become a leading brand" - Mr. Do Manh Truong said.
According to Mr. Do Manh Truong, for the electric vehicle market to develop, in addition to the efforts of businesses, it is necessary to have the support of both the people and the Government. Currently, the Government has been supporting the development of electric cars through a policy of exempting registration fees for electric cars until the end of February 2027.
However, Mr. Truong said that in order for the green transformation to take place more strongly, VinFast hopes that the Government will consider additional support solutions similar to those of countries with a strong electric vehicle industry such as supporting registration and inspection costs, prioritizing parking spaces; having policies to support the development of charging station systems; supporting businesses in production, business, and service provision related to electric vehicles.
I believe that with the attention of the Government, the support of consumers and the cooperation of the business community, the netzero target as committed by COP26 will certainly be achieved - Mr. Do Manh Truong affirmed.
In order to promote propaganda, raise social awareness of the role and importance of green and sustainable economic development, and at the same time call for the cooperation of social organizations in green transformation, this morning, March 28, the Vietnam General Confederation of Labor, Lao Dong Newspaper in coordination with the Ministry of Agriculture and Environment, organized a series of events on Green Transformation Day 2025 with the theme "Green Transformation - Joining Hands for a Sustainable Vietnam".
