In 1912, the first official 100m world record recognized by the International Athletics Federation (IAAF) belonged to Donald Lippincott, with a time of 10.6 seconds. After nearly 100 years, there have been other names breaking this record, with the closest being Usain Bolt. In 2009, the Jamaican athlete broke his own record - he set 2 consecutive records in 2008, with a time of 9.58 seconds.
1 year ago, China's Tiangong Ultra robot ran 100m in 21.50 seconds. This year, this robot completed that distance in just 9.39 seconds. In just 1 year, the time was shortened by 12.11 seconds and of course, surpassed the record of former legend Bolt.
In the future, the record may be broken even deeper, but the story here is not a comparison between humans and machines, products of AI. Not only running 100m, people can also see robots playing table tennis, boxing, or before that synchronously performing martial arts with softness no less than humans.
The issue is that people's concerns when entering the era of machines can change many things. In the immediate future, just talking about sports, it is entirely possible that humans will no longer directly compete but entertain with machines, with world tournaments for robots. In fact, there have been sports tournaments for robots, but only in a rudimentary, block form. But when there are human-shaped robots, organizing football, basketball, tennis, baseball or any sport can become a reality.
And therefore, sports become a race of mind, exploiting the power of the brain, and gradually, people themselves forget, no longer care about self-propagation. Not to mention doing housework, going to the market... That is extremely dangerous, at least for personal health.
It sounds distant, but the current situation with the group of children who are inactive and chronic diseases are increasing, in the era of AI developing at a terrible speed, caution is not superfluous. In the old days, the elders often criticized "stupid mind, developed limbs", but in the future, if the mind has intelligence but is not supported by a strong, vigorous body, life or any form of entertainment will lose many meanings.
