Abandoning mindfulness

When you reach middle age, looking at your gray hair, knee joints starting to ache every time the weather turns windy, or startled to realize that age spots have appeared on your hand, you realize that the hardest thing to let go is not the house, the car, or an unfinished love affair, but the thought that everything you have will last forever.

When you are young, you live as if time is limitless, until you are startled to see the kitchen corner empty of relatives, the old drinking party now each person goes their own way or just meet at... funerals, the child who was still demanding to be held today has packed his suitcase independently, and you are shocked to realize that you have never signed a warranty contract with anyone. When you are young, you are full of contemplation, you must be successful, you must be right, you must maintain a relationship; and then you plow to buy a large house, but in the evening each person withdraws into a room with a phone, angry at someone twenty years old while they have forgotten for a long time, hugging old failures to hurt themselves while the world has turned a new page. Others do not take away much, you are the one who loses all those years.

Letting go is releasing yourself. Letting go of someone who no longer wants to be by your side. Letting go of the need to be loved by everyone. Letting go of meaningless arguments. Letting go of the image of the person you once thought you had to become. Youth likes to conquer. Middle-aged people begin to know how to choose. And the further on, the more you understand: Happiness is sometimes not more, but less. Less useless drinking parties, less meaningless arguments, less looking around and feeling missing, fewer "must" words. Don't turn the rest of your life into a court session where you are both the plaintiff, defendant, and judge every day.

Pick up what comes, cherish what stays, see off what goes. Not because of unintentional reasons, but because you understand that love does not mean possession, attachment does not mean eternity. There are people who only go with you for a short distance, but that distance is enough to make up a part of life. So, instead of forcing everything to stay, be grateful for them having been here. Call your loved one when you can, eat delicious meals. Go somewhere when your feet are still healthy. Apologize before it's too late.

And if there is one thing you must keep, perhaps not money or fame. But the ability to smile at things you cannot control. Because in the end, human life is like a train. Some people go down, some people go up. Some people go with us to a few stations, some people go very far. At the last station, the important thing is not how many people you keep. But whether you have lived, loved, smiled and known when to let go.

So, you pick up your phone, smile and send a message: "Let's let go of each other, honey, because we are no longer on the same path. But have a farewell meal at the old restaurant on the first day we met, honey!
