The Central Highlands General Hospital only has one stone laser machine and this device has been determined to be broken since November 2023. But since then, the hospital has recorded nearly 500 patients with kidney stone performed.
Mr. Nay Phi La - Director of the Dak Lak Provincial Department of Health said: "In this case, there was no professional error. Here, hospital staff have declared and falsified kidney stone surgery records and showed signs of insurance fraud. For example, if the type 1 stone involved in surgery is repaired to type 2, the insurance will be enjoyed at a higher level".
The question is, why didn't the leaders of the Central Highlands General Hospital know about the medical staff's declaration and falsification of the kidney stone surgery records? If you think that it is irresponsible to know, if you still let your subordinates do it, it is a deliberate violation.
In addition, directly related to this incident, there have been 2 officials who have been suspended from their positions.
In early August 2025, the Director of the Central Highlands General Hospital signed a decision to temporarily suspend the position of leader, manager, and surgeon for Mr. Nguyen Ngoc Hoang - Head of the Department of Nephrology - Urology.
The second person, Mr. Le Xuan Vinh - Deputy Head of the Department of Nephrology - Urology, was temporarily suspended from his position as a leader, management and surgery surgeon.
Both Mr. Hoang and Vinh were temporarily suspended for signs of violations in the management and use of laser stone cutting machines.
Although both of them have expired their suspension period and are working at the hospital, with such violations, can they be guaranteed in terms of expertise and medical ethics to continue working?
And this case of falsifying records of kidney stone disease is the answer.
Ms. Le Ka Thuy - Deputy Director of the Central Highlands General Hospital said: "The violation at the Department of Surgery - Nephrology, Department of Surgery - Anesthesia Resuscitation is spontaneous due to the individuals involved not complying with regulations and not reporting in time".
The investigation agency will clarify the individuals and groups who committed the violations, what is the profiteering, how much money, and who will receive this advantage?
Despite the violations of individuals, the responsibility still belongs to the leadership of the Central Highlands General Hospital.
This shocking incident is another warning about the deterioration of medical ethics. Because if after investigation, medical staff are found to be doing wrong things for money or violating the law, it is too dangerous.
This serious violation also has other negative impacts, which is to lose the patient's opportunity for timely treatment, lose the trust of the community in the health sector, especially public health facilities.
