punishing for violating the tree line, the tree cannot survive

Lê Thanh Phong |

Many transport infrastructure projects have been burdened with trees and green areas in Ho Chi Minh City.

The Chairman of the Ho Chi Minh City People's Committee requested to consider the responsibility of related units in the sidewalk construction that damaged the root system of 17 lim trees in District 1.

The construction of transport infrastructure projects and urban areas causing green trees is not new, but there have been no effective measures to prevent it.

The Department of Transport has coordinated with the Inspectorate of the Department of Construction to strictly punish violations, non-compliance with regulations, use of large-capacity machinery, deep digging without taking measures to protect trees, leading to many trees being affected.

The problem is, a construction work that is not in accordance with the design can be repaired, while a dead tree cannot be revived. Therefore, strictly punishing to prevent construction activities that can lead to dead trees, do not let the trees die before punishing is useless.

According to the latest report from the Ho Chi Minh City Center for Technical Infrastructure Management (under the Department of Transport), the renovation of sidewalks on 54 streets in Districts 1, 5, 6, 11, Tan Binh, Phu Nhuan, Binh Thanh, Go Vap and Cu Chi district has affected more than 2,000 trees.

Of these, about 90 trees were cut down due to serious damage to the root system and unsafety. A series of other trees also had their branches pruning to minimize the risk of falling.

The city's green space is increasingly narrowing, giving room for housing projects and infrastructure projects. The process of concreting has pushed trees to the dead ground, which everyone sees but cannot stop.

There are many projects, the city has proposed a plan to relocate trees to ensure the number of trees remains the same. But where to relocate, who to take care of, who to manage and who to check to determine whether the number of relocated trees will live or die, and how much will be left.

Returning to the case of 17 scattered lim trees in District 1, the Chairman of the Ho Chi Minh City People's Committee requested to review the responsibility of related units as very drastic, but how to consider how, how to take responsibility, and which individual will be handled is what must be made public.

It is necessary to handle individuals and units that violate and kill trees to save the city's green space.

Do not raise your height to hit the ball.
