According to information from Ca Mau General Hospital, the deceased victim is Mr. N.M. H (43 years old). Two patients are being actively treated including Mr. C.T. P (58 years old) with cerebral edema, very poor prognosis and Mr. C.T. N (49 years old) being treated at the Intensive Care - Poison Control Department.
Relatives of the victims said that previously a group of family members organized a meal at Hamlet 4, Ly Van Lam ward and bought rice wine at a grocery store near their house. This type of wine is said to be homemade wine, without labels, and is used by many local people because of its cheap price.

In the group, there were 5 people drinking alcohol together, but the 3 people mentioned above drank a lot, each person more than half a liter. About a day after the drinking session, the victims developed symptoms of headache, dizziness, vomiting, blurred vision and quickly became severe, and had to be hospitalized for emergency treatment.
According to doctors, the clinical manifestations of the patient are consistent with methanol poisoning - a type of industrial alcohol with very high toxicity. When entering the body, methanol is metabolized into substances that damage the brain, optic nerves and many internal organs. Just using a small amount can lead to blindness or death.
Doctor CKII Ma Nhon Khiem - Head of the Intensive Care - Poison Control Department, Ca Mau General Hospital - recommends that people absolutely do not use alcohol of unknown origin, handicraft alcohol that has not been quality-checked or alcohol without labels. When there are abnormal signs after drinking alcohol such as headache, vomiting, blurred vision, it is necessary to quickly go to a medical facility for timely emergency treatment.
