3 types of nuts rich in protein and fat are good for people with kidney and liver disease

Pumpkin seeds, or sunflower seeds... are seeds rich in protein and are very good for the kidneys and liver.

Nutrition plays an important role in kidney and liver health, especially in people with chronic diseases. Among the healthy food sources, many international nutritionists recommend adding some nuts rich in protein and unsaturated fats, which help maintain energy, protect liver cells and reduce the burden on the kidneys.

Pumpkin seeds

Pumpkin seeds are a source of high-quality protein, rich in magnesium, zinc and healthy fats. According to U.S. Department of Agriculture, 28g of pumpkin seeds provide about 7g of protein and a moderate amount of potassium, which can be adjusted appropriately for kidney patients.

Antioxidants and omega-6 fatty acids in pumpkin seeds help reduce inflammation, support liver cell regeneration and improve fat metabolism, says Dr. Megan Rossi (understanding Kings College London). In addition, pumpkin seeds also contain phytosterols, which help lower cholesterol, an indirect factor in protecting the kidneys.

Sunflower seeds

Sunflower seeds are rich in vitamin E, a powerful antioxidant that helps protect the liver from damage caused by free radicals. 28g of sunflower seeds contain about 6g of protein and many monounsaturated fatty acids, which help improve blood lipids and circulation.

Dr. Frank Hu (ward School of Public Health) commented: Vitamin E from sunflower seeds can reduce the progression of fatty liver disease and protect blood vessel walls, thereby supporting kidney health. However, he noted that you should choose unsalted seeds to avoid excess sodium.

Flaxseeds

Flaxseeds contain plant-based omega-3s (ALA), soluble fiber and lignans, plant compounds that have anti-inflammatory and antioxidant properties. Research published in the Journal of Renal Nutrition shows that adding flaxseeds to the diet can help reduce inflammation in chronic kidney patients.

Dr. William Li (author of Eat to Beat Disease) explains: Lan seeds help improve kidney filtering function, reduce inflammation and help the liver metabolize fat more effectively. In addition, the fiber in flaxseeds also helps control blood sugar, reducing pressure on the liver.

Principles of safe use for kidneys and liver: Eat about 1 small handful (25-30g) per day. Choose dried, unsalted, unsweetened roasted beans. Drink enough water to support detoxification through the kidneys.
