According to the China National Health Commission, just maintaining some simple daily habits can contribute to reducing the risk of kidney stones.
Drink enough water and divide it into smaller portions several times a day
Experts say that drinking enough water is the simplest but most effective measure to limit the formation of kidney stones. When the body is provided with enough water, urine will be thinner, helping to reduce the deposition of mineral crystals such as calcium, oxalate and uric acid - components that easily crystallize into stones.
Instead of drinking a lot of water at the same time, you should maintain the habit of drinking small sips, divided equally throughout the day, especially in hot weather or after exercise, which causes the body to lose a lot of water.
Adjusting diet
In addition to supplementing water, diet also plays an important role in preventing kidney stones. Experts recommend limiting foods high in salt, sugar, rich in animal protein and foods high in oxalate if you are at high risk or have had kidney stones before.
People who have been diagnosed with stones should adjust their diet according to the composition of the stones under the guidance of a doctor, instead of applying diets based on word of mouth.
Do not apply folk remedies yourself
Many word-of-mouth methods such as drinking vinegar, carbonated soft drinks or "stone dissolving medicine" have not been scientifically verified and cannot replace medical treatment. When signs such as abdominal cramps, bloody urine or suspected kidney stones appear, patients need to go to a medical facility for ultrasound, to determine the size and location of the stones to have appropriate treatment directions.
Experts emphasize that prevention with a healthy lifestyle and periodic health check-ups is still the most effective solution to reduce the risk of kidney stones accumulation as well as limit recurrence of the disease.
