According to a report by the Son La Provincial Sub-Department of Food Safety and Hygiene, at noon on May 2, at the field house of Mrs. Lo Thi Phuong (Na Hien village, Phieng Pan commune), 24 people ate rice with steamed dog meat, boiled duck, dried bamboo shoot soup, rice wine and white wine.
After the main meal, 6 people went to the kitchen to eat more mushroom soup picked in the forest.
At about 8 pm on the same day, baby Vi Thi D (born in 2010) showed symptoms of abdominal pain, frequent vomiting, diarrhea. At about 10 am on May 4, she died at home.
After that, Ms. Lo Thi Phuong (born in 1964, baby D's mother), Ms. Lo Thi Song (born in 2006), Ms. Lo Thi Toi (born in 2001), Mr. Lo Van Mo (born in 1991) and Ms. Lo Thi Ban (born in 2005) successively appeared symptoms of nausea, chest tightness, and digestive disorders.
The patients were taken to Mai Son Regional General Hospital for emergency treatment, then transferred to Son La Provincial General Hospital and continued to be transferred to Bach Mai Hospital for treatment.
At the time of verification, the remaining 18 people who had lunch together but did not eat mushroom soup were all healthy and showed no abnormal signs.
The Son La Provincial Sub-Department of Food Safety and Hygiene has coordinated with local authorities to investigate and take mushroom samples in the picking area for testing.
At the same time, it is recommended that people not arbitrarily use wild mushrooms or strange mushrooms; when there are signs of suspected poisoning, it is necessary to quickly take the patient to a medical facility for timely treatment.
