On March 31, news from Khanh Hoa Provincial General Hospital said that doctors had just saved a 19-month-old patient who was hospitalized in critical condition with septic shock and multiple organ damage.
According to information from the family, patient Vu Kien B. (residing in Ha Gia village, Van Hung commune) was admitted to the hospital at 2:28 PM on March 25, 2026.
Previously, on the evening of March 24, the patient and a twin baby living in the same house drank pre-mixed boxed milk.
At about 5 am on the same day of hospitalization, both children showed symptoms of vomiting and diarrhea.
However, the twin baby only showed mild symptoms, while patient B. vomited and had loose green stools more than 10 times.
The family bought medicine for the baby to use themselves, but the condition did not improve, so they took him to the hospital.
At the Department of Pediatrics - Khanh Hoa General Hospital, the pediatric patient was admitted to the hospital in critical condition: High fever of 40°C, lethargy, slow reaction to pain stimulation, purple lips, cold hands and feet, rotating pulse not detectable, blood pressure not measurable, capillary filling time lasting over 4 seconds, sunken eyes, rapid heartbeat 198 beats/minute, green stool mixed with mucus.
Immediately, the patient was transferred to the Pediatric Intensive Care Unit for treatment.
Initial test results showed very high inflammatory index, blood clotting disorders, increased liver enzymes, and acute kidney failure.
Clinical manifestations are consistent with the diagnosis of septic shock, multiple organ damage due to gastrointestinal infection.
The patient was actively treated with many resuscitation measures such as endotracheal intubation, mechanical ventilation to support respiration, intravenous fluids to prevent shock, use vasopressors to stabilize hemodynamics, use antibiotics, adjust acid-base and electrolyte disorders, and other intensive resuscitation methods.
