Fruit is a rich source of vitamins, fiber and antioxidants. However, not all are suitable if you are trying to control your weight. According to nutritionists from the Harvard School of Public Health, some fruits are high in natural sugar and energy, which can easily cause you to gain weight if eaten at the wrong time or too much.
Here are two types of fruit that seem "harmless", but cause weight gain if consumed incorrectly:
1. Dates - rich in sugar, low in fiber
Grapes contain high fructose and have a relatively large glycemic index (GI). A cup of grapes can contain up to 23g of sugar - equivalent to a small can of soft drink. Meanwhile, because grapes are soft and easy to eat, many people often eat continuously without realizing the amount of calories consumed. This causes blood sugar levels to increase rapidly, stimulating insulin and leading to excess fat accumulation, especially in the abdomen.
2. Durian - rich in calories and fat
Durian is loved for its rich aroma, but is one of the most energetic fruits. 100g of durian contains about 150 calories, not to mention the amount of natural sugar and saturated fat is quite high. Eating a large bag of durian can be equivalent to a bowl of white rice, while many people have the habit of eating a few bags at a time. This is the reason why weight increases rapidly if eaten regularly.
Note
These fruits should be eaten in the morning or before exercise to avoid energy storage.
Prioritize low-sugar, high-fiber fruits such as apples, grapefruit, and cucumbers.
Control your portion sizes, avoid snacking on fruit continuously throughout the day.
