Patient hospitalized for emergency treatment for believing in advertisement "worn out after 1 month

Ho Chi Minh City - Believing in the advertisement "stones wear out after a month", many patients are hospitalized when stones cause obstruction, threaten kidney function, and require surgery.

The patient is H.C.T (57 years old, residing in Ho Chi Minh City) diagnosed with kidney stones about three years ago. However, the patient said that due to concerns about surgery and treatment costs, the patient did not go to a medical facility but chose to use products advertised online with the promise of dissolving stones in just one to two months at a low cost.

After a long period of use, the condition not only did not improve but also progressed more severely and had to be hospitalized for emergency treatment. Upon admission, through examination and diagnosis, doctors determined that the patient had kidney stones about 20 mm in size causing urinary tract obstruction. This is a dangerous condition, which can seriously affect kidney function if not treated promptly.

Immediately after that, the Urology Unit team performed surgery to remove the stones. The surgery was successfully performed, helping to solve the obstruction and preserve kidney function for the patient.

Searching on social networking sites, it is not difficult to come across advertisements for kidney stones treatment drugs using traditional medicine. In the role of someone who needs to buy kidney stones treatment drugs for relatives, reporters contacted a person who claimed to be a traditional medicine doctor specializing in treating diseases such as liver cancer, kidney stones, hemorrhoids...

After the reporter presented the condition of a relative with kidney stones for many years, who had been treated with western medicine according to hospital prescriptions and used decocted wild bananas to drink, but recently experienced severe abdominal pain, this person quickly gave his opinion without asking to see the medical record or exchange directly with the patient.

This person believes that the stones may have moved down to the ureter, causing blockage between the kidneys and bladder, leading to severe pain, and may even require emergency treatment. From there, this person advised using traditional medicine with three types including: herbs that help prevent ureteral contractions so that stones move down, fresh herbs that support "eroding" stones, and oral tablets advertised to have diuretic effects to "push stones" out.

According to the introduction, the treatment course lasts more than a month, combined with 15 days of using fresh herbs. This person affirmed that after the course, the stones can gradually shrink and be excreted through the urine, although he did not provide scientific evidence or specific medical indications.

MSc. BSCKI. Tran Quoc Phong - Head of Urology Unit, Binh Dan Hospital HCMC said that currently there is no drug that can completely dissolve all types of kidney stones. Some drugs can support in certain cases, especially with small stones and specific components. However, most kidney stones, especially calcium stones, cannot dissolve by drugs.

In fact, current treatment drugs mainly play a supportive role such as pain relief, urethral smooth muscle relaxation to help small stones move easily, regulating the urinary environment to limit further development of stones, and preventing recurrence in people at high risk.

Experts warn that believing in "caillot dissolving drugs" advertisements online can cause patients to delay treatment, while stones continue to grow, causing blockages, infections and kidney damage.

People are advised to see a doctor early when signs appear such as: back pain that gradually spreads down to the lower abdomen or groin. Frequent painful urination, cloudy or bloody urine. Nausea or vomiting accompanied by pain. Especially fever and chills because these may be signs of infection that need timely treatment. Doctors emphasize that the important thing is not to find a drug advertised online, but to accurately identify the type of stones, size and level of impact to have appropriate treatment directions. Without professional evaluation, self-medication is only risky and potentially risky to health.
