Hospitals in Ho Chi Minh City perform more than 3,500 robot surgeries

HCMC - Over the past 9 years, Binh Dan Hospital has performed more than 3,500 robot surgeries, mainly cancer surgery and complex diseases.

Sharing at the 21st Science and Technology Conference of Binh Dan Hospital in 2025 (CISE2025, taking place over 2 days 4-5.4.), Associate Professor, Dr. Tran Vinh Hung - Director of Binh Dan Hospital, said that robotic surgery is a typical example of the implementation of high-quality techniques at Binh Dan Hospital.

In 2014, the hospital approached robot surgery. At the end of 2016, the hospital deployed the first robotic surgery on adults in Vietnam. Robotic surgery at the hospital has been performed on over 15 diseases.

Over the past 9 years, the hospital has performed more than 3,500 surgeries, mainly cancer surgeries and complex diseases. In 2024 alone, the hospital has operated on nearly 700 cases using robots. In particular, in 2022, on the world map of robotic surgery, there was a picture of Vietnam.

One of the sessions that received much attention at the 2025 Binh Dan Hospital Scientific and technological Conference was direct 2025, eye surgery from the operating room of Binh Dan Hospital to the conference.

The program includes endoscopic surgery to remove esophageal cancer, robot surgery to remove the prostate at the root with professional consultation by international experts and doctors at Binh Dan Hospital. Doctors attending the conference can observe and discuss directly with the surgeon.

Also at the conference, Associate Professor, Dr. Tang Chi Thuong - Director of the Ho Chi Minh City Department of Health commented that after more than 70 years of formation and development, Binh Dan Hospital has been a pioneer in techniques and surgeries, from open surgery to endoscopic surgery, robotic surgery and other advanced treatment methods.

This is also a scientific center, where leading experts gather to research and apply new techniques, bringing optimal treatment effectiveness to patients.

The Director of the Ho Chi Minh City Department of Health emphasized that as the largest medical center in the country, Ho Chi Minh City has long played a pioneering role in medical development, constantly improving service quality, promoting scientific research and human resource training.

Over the years, the city's health system has made breakthroughs with the establishment of many specialized hospitals, the strong development of high-tech medicine and innovation in health management. All are aimed at building Ho Chi Minh City into a health center of the ASEAN region, according to the orientation of the Politburo.

This year's scientific and technological conference of Binh Dan Hospital has the theme of Connecting international surgical experts, with the participation of more than 1,500 delegates who are professors, doctors, pharmacists, nurses and medical experts.

The conference is a scientific forum held every two years to connect Vietnamese and international doctors, nurses, and health experts to share research achievements, update knowledge and clinical practice experience in surgery. At the same time, expanding cooperation to improve treatment capacity for surgical patients.
