Provincial hospitals need to increase salaries to retain good doctors

THANH TUẤN |

Gia Lai - Deteriorated infrastructure, medical staff quitting due to low salaries... are the problems that Gia Lai Provincial General Hospital is facing.

On October 12, the Department of Health of Gia Lai province said that the Provincial People's Committee had given opinions and directed the unit to coordinate and advise on removing difficulties and obstacles in policy mechanisms to help the Provincial General Hospital develop and effectively treat diseases for local people.

In fact, the hospital infrastructure was built in 2001, including administrative, emergency, clinic, treatment, and testing buildings... Currently, these buildings have seriously degraded.

Furthermore, most of the equipment has been used for too long, many of them are old and outdated. Meanwhile, the budget allocated for purchasing medical equipment from the budget is very small, insignificant compared to the actual needs.

In 2023, after the COVID-19 pandemic, Gia Lai Provincial General Hospital had up to 35 employees quit their jobs.

The main reason is that income is not commensurate with the work. It is expected that in 2024, the Hospital will have a salary and salary-based income deficit of over 12.7 billion VND.

The leaders of the Provincial General Hospital recommended that the Provincial People's Committee and the Department of Health pay attention to repairing infrastructure, investing in expansion, and increasing the number of hospital beds for departments that are currently overloaded such as: Intensive care and anti-poisoning; Artificial kidney; Internal medicine; Geriatrics; Cardiology...

In particular, Gia Lai General Hospital hopes that the province will have a good treatment mechanism to retain good doctors and nurses, improve the working environment, salary, allowances, etc.
