On January 30, Vung Tau General Hospital (Phuoc Thang ward, Ho Chi Minh City) successfully operated on the second case of traumatic brain injury with professional support from Gia Dinh People's Hospital, further affirming the effectiveness of coordination and professional support in handling severe and complex cases.
Patient L.M.K (born in 2004) was admitted to the hospital on the same morning in a state of traumatic brain injury. Family members said that 2 days ago the patient had an accident when he fell and hit his head. At that time, the patient was still awake and had good contact, but now he has symptoms of headache in the occipital region.
Through examination, doctors determined that the patient had epidural hematoma in the left occipital region, frontal lobe contusion on both sides, accompanied by a left occipital fracture. The patient was diagnosed with traumatic brain injury - multiple injuries due to traffic accidents, with a risk of brain compression and serious neurological complications requiring urgent surgery.
The skull opening surgery to remove the epidural hematoma from the posterior fossa by BS.CKII Pham Duy Tan - Deputy Head of Neurosurgery Department, Gia Dinh People's Hospital - in coordination with the team of the Department of Anesthesia and Resuscitation Surgery, Gia Dinh People's Hospital; Department of Anesthesia and Resuscitation Surgery and General Surgery Department of Vung Tau General Hospital has been successful. Currently, the patient is being monitored and cared for post-operatively, the condition is stable.
According to BS.CKII Pham Duy Tan, the patient's condition is very dangerous damage due to being located near the vital centers of the brain. Timely surgical intervention is decisive in relieving compression, limiting secondary damage and improving the prognosis for the patient.
This is the 2nd successful traumatic brain injury surgery at Vung Tau General Hospital, not only bringing opportunities for survival and recovery for patients but also clearly demonstrating the effectiveness of the professional support model between medical facilities. Thereby, contributing to gradually improving the quality of specialized treatment, better meeting the health care needs of the people.
