Vietnam's Ministry of Health denies recording cases of Chikungunya

The Ministry of Health affirmed that up to now, Vietnam has not recorded any cases of Chikungunya, and at the same time recommended that people raise awareness of disease prevention.

On August 24, some media outlets and social networks spread information that Vietnam had the first case of Chikungunya. The Ministry of Health has denied it, emphasizing that since the beginning of 2025, no cases of this disease have been recorded in the country.

The Department of Prevention (Ministry of Health) said that Chikungunya is caused by the Chikungunya virus (CHIKV), transmitted through Aedes mosquitoes - a type of mosquito that is also the intermediary for the transmission of dengue fever. The disease is not transmitted directly from person to person. Aedes mosquitoes are often active during the day, peaking in the early morning and late afternoon.

The disease is on the rise in some Asian countries such as China and Singapore, and has recorded many outbreaks in Africa, South Asia and Europe.

To proactively prevent and control Chikungunya, the Ministry of Health recommends that people:

Cover the water containers so that the mosquitoes have no place to breed.

Put the fish in tanks and tools containing large amounts of water to destroy the monkey/river.

Regularly clean the living environment, remove items that may contain stagnant rainwater.

Use a mosquito net and cream and wear long clothes while sleeping, especially during the day.

People are also advised to update information from the Ministry of Health and local health agencies to avoid receiving and spreading false rumors.
