Students in Ho Chi Minh City return to school from today

HCMC - Today (8.25), students across the city have returned to school, starting the new school year.

Previously, on August 20, students in grades 9 and 12 returned to school. Primary schools have also organized a festival to welcome first graders to get acquainted with the school.

The opening ceremony of the entire city for the 2025-2026 school year will take place on September 5.

Speaking at the recent conference on implementing general education tasks for the 2025-2026 school year, Mr. Nguyen Van Hieu - Director of the Department of Education and Training of Ho Chi Minh City has given many instructions in the new school year 2025-2026.

In particular, Mr. Hieu emphasized the management of extra teaching and learning; building happy schools; teacher recruitment, ensuring a teaching plan of 2 sessions/day...

For the opening ceremony on September 5, Mr. Hieu suggested that schools should proactively plan to organize and arrange yard, roof, screen, and stable communication lines for students to participate in the opening program, avoiding hot weather or weather affecting students.

In the 2025-2026 school year, Ho Chi Minh City will have a total of more than 2.5 million students (an increase of more than 39,600 students compared to the previous school year).

Of which, preschool has 478,458 students; primary school has 939,002 students; secondary school has 759,278 students; high school has 352,051 students.

semester 1 starts from September 5, semester 2 starts from January 19, 2026 and ends before May 31, 2026.
