Chikungunya is an infectious disease caused by the Chikungunya virus, transmitted through Aedes mosquitoes (the same mosquito that causes dengue fever), not transmitted directly from person to person.
The disease often causes high fever, joint pain, rashes; most patients recover after a few days to a week, but joint pain can last for many months. The disease is spreading in many countries.
Implementing Official Dispatch No. 5270/BYT-PB dated August 10, 2025 of the Ministry of Health, the Hanoi People's Committee requested departments, branches, sectors, People's Committees of wards and communes to continue implementing plans and directives on disease prevention and control; closely coordinate with the health sector in monitoring and prevention, especially for dengue fever and Chikungunya.
The Department of Health is assigned to monitor epidemics at Noi Bai International Border Gate, at medical facilities and in the community; isolate and promptly handle outbreaks; strengthen monitoring of disease-carrying mosquitoes. At the same time, the Department of Health must guide measures to prevent Chikungunya combined with preventing dengue fever; direct medical examination and treatment facilities to fully prepare human resources to avoid overload; organize inspection, supervision and report the epidemic situation to the Ministry of Health.
The Department of Culture and Sports coordinates to promote communication, health education, and propaganda so that people can proactively prevent diseases and self-treat water containers with firecrackers.
Chairmen of People's Committees of wards and communes are responsible for organizing epidemic prevention in localities; ensuring funding, chemicals, and machinery according to the "4 on-site" principle; monitoring, taking samples for testing suspected cases; zoning, and handling outbreaks.
Localities need to integrate the work of preventing Chikungunya and dengue fever through environmental sanitation campaigns, disease prevention, and spraying chemicals; at the same time, promote propaganda, mobilize people to raise awareness and implement epidemic prevention measures.
