According to the Department of Preventive Medicine - Ministry of Health, from the beginning of 2025 until now, our country has recorded 912 cases of seasonal flu, no deaths have been recorded; the number of cases has decreased by 97.4% compared to the same period in 2024 (34.442).
In particular, the current cases of influenza do not record changes in toxins, mainly influenza A(H1N1), A(H3N2) and influenza B.
Statistics show that in 2024, the whole country recorded 289,214 cases of seasonal flu, 8 deaths; the number of cases decreased by 18.1% compared to the same period in 2023 (353,108), the number of deaths increased by 5 cases.
In 2024, our country also recorded 4 deaths due to influenza A(H1N1) in Binh Dinh, these were cases with severe underlying diseases, without any complications of the virus.
Some provinces and cities recorded high numbers of cases, Thanh Hoa (46,600), Thai Binh (26,345), Nghe An (17,949), Ha Tinh (14,073), Son La (10,162).
The Department of Preventive Medicine added that in the world, the incidence of influenza syndrome (ILI), acute respiratory infections (ARI) has increased since the last weeks of 2024 in many countries, especially In the Northern Hemisphere, consistent with the typical trend for the end of the year.
The results of influenza monitoring in the world recorded the diseases of the main influenza agents in the regions: Europe (appearing all subdivisions of influenza virus), North America (mainly influenza A), Central America and Caribbean (mainly influenza A/H3N2), Tay Phi (mainly influenza B), Bac Phi (mainly influenza A/H3N2), East Africa (mainly influenza B) and many countries in Asia (mainly influenza A(H1N1), pd09).
According to the warning from the Department of Preventive Medicine, seasonal flu is an acute infectious disease with symptoms of fever, headache, muscle pain, fatigue, runny nose, sore throat and cough. The main causes of the disease are influenza A(H3N2), influenza A(H1N1), influenza B and influenza C.
The disease has a very high risk of infection, through the respiratory tract, through drops of saliva or nasal secretion due to sneezing and coughing. Normally, the disease develops slightly and recovers within 2 - 7 days.
However, for children and the elderly, especially those with chronic heart disease, kidney disease, metabolic disease, anemia or immunodeficiency, the disease can worsen, easily complications, and can lead to death.
To proactively prevent seasonal flu, the Department of Preventive Medicine recommends that people perform the following contents well:
Cover your mouth and nose when coughing or sneezing, it is best to cover with a cloth or towel or disposable paper towel or sleeves to reduce the spread of respiratory secretions; Wear masks in crowded places, on public transport;
Wash your hands regularly with soap and clean water or hand-to-sply solution (especially after coughing or sneezing).
Do not drag indiscriminately in public places;
Limit contact with people with influenza or suspected cases when not necessary;
Vaccination of seasonal influenza vaccine;
Follow a healthy lifestyle; eat nutritious foods to prevent influenza virus; increase physical activity, improve health.
The Department of Preventive Medicine notes: When there are symptoms of coughs, fevers, runny noses, headaches, fatigue, and failure to arbitrarily do tests and purchase medications at home, it is necessary to contact a medical facility for timely consultation, examination and treatment.
