On June 2, Chairman of the Ho Chi Minh City People's Committee Nguyen Van Duoc visited and congratulated the fetal heart clearance team of Children's Hospital 1 and Tu Du Hospital. The Chairman of the Ho Chi Minh City People's Committee awarded Certificates of Merit to Children's Hospital 1 and Tu Du Hospital for their outstanding and outstanding achievements in fetal heart intervention for Singaporean mothers, contributing to marking a new turning point in fetal medicine in Vietnam.
Doctor Tran Ngoc Hai - Director of Tu Du Hospital said that this was the most complicated fetal intervention ever, lasting more than 6 hours, after 2 interventions. This case marks the 9th year of operation of the Prenatal Care Center (2016 - 2025), a journey full of effort and silent dedication of the medical team.
The 9 successful cases are a stepping stone for the Ministry of Health to officially recognize fetal intervention as a routine technique instead of a pilot. It is expected that the 10th case will mark the opening of a new development stage for this field in Vietnam.
"We not only master fetal intervention endoscopy techniques but also proficiently use the world's leading modern ultrasound equipment. This success affirms that Vietnamese doctors are fully capable of performing advanced techniques of international standards. This is the result of the city's direct investment in developing specialized healthcare, especially in the field of obstetrics and gynecology, a field that is only popular in developed countries. In addition, Tu Du Hospital is also implementing many high-tech techniques such as surgery for payment methodology, treatment of neural tube defects" - Dr. Hai said.

Ho Chi Minh City People's Committee Chairman Nguyen Van Duoc is evaluated for the 9th fetal intervention not only meaningful medicine but also shows the stature and development capacity of the city health. This is the result of the journey of nearly 20 years of enthusiasm, from human resource training, international cooperation to equipment investment. At the same time, clear evidence for the city's intensive health development strategy and the pride of the health sector nationwide.
The Chairman of the Ho Chi Minh City People's Committee hopes that Tu Du Hospital and Children's Hospital 1 will continue to be the two spearheads in the strategy of developing a modern health system, integrating internationally and aiming to build Ho Chi Minh City into a leading health center in Southeast Asia.
Previously, on the evening of May 30, Minister of Health Dao Hong Lan sent a letter of commendation to cadres, doctors, medical staff and the leadership of Children's Hospital 1 and Tu Du Hospital.
On May 28, fetal intervention specialists from Tu Du Hospital coordinated with pediatric cardioversion specialists from Children's Hospital 1 to successfully intervene in a case of complex congenital heart disease in a 22-week fetus of a Singaporean mother.
The mother was discovered by KK Women's and Children's Hospital (Singapore) to have a plaque-free fetus in the aorta - a rare case of congenital heart deformities. Singaporean doctors at KK Hospital assessed that the fetus was at high risk of death in the uterus and introduced and transferred the patient to Ho Chi Minh City for treatment.
The mother went to Children's Hospital 1 to assess the fetal congenital heart abnormality. The fetal intervention and congenital heart intervention teams of Children's Hospital 1 and Tu Du Hospital consulted remotely with leading experts from Australia and France, and finally agreed on the diagnosis and the need for early intervention to save the fetus.
This is the 9th fetal heart intervention performed in Ho Chi Minh City, also the most difficult case to date. Because the fetus is still very small, weighing about 600 grams, and is in a particularly serious medical condition.
The crew conducted the first intervention on May 22, but it was unsuccessful. By May 28, after careful preparation and close coordination between specialties, the second intervention was a great success.
