What is the warrior diet?
This eating style is based on the habits of ancient warriors, who ate little during the day and feasted at night.
“This type of diet is classified as intermittent fasting, which is an eating pattern that involves periods of consuming fewer calories over a period of time,” says certified nutritionist Alisha Jeswani, of Apollo Clinic, India.
How to do the warrior diet
The Classic Warrior Diet:
20-hour fast: During this time, the dieter drinks only water, zero-calorie beverages (such as black coffee or tea), and small amounts of low-calorie foods such as fruits, vegetables, or yogurt.
4-Hour Meal: During this time frame, eat a large, nutritious meal. Focus on protein, healthy fats, and complex carbohydrates from whole foods.
Adjusted diet:
16-hour fast: Fasting for 16 hours, can be done by skipping breakfast and limiting eating time to 8 hours.
8-Hour Meal: During this time, eat balanced meals that focus on whole foods.
Notes when implementing the warrior diet:
- Drink plenty of water during the day, especially during fasting.
- Prioritize healthy foods like fruits, vegetables, lean proteins, whole grains and healthy fats.
- Start with a less restrictive regimen and gradually increase the fasting time as your body adapts.
- Pay attention to your body's signals and adjust your diet as needed.
- Before starting any new diet, you should consult a nutritionist or doctor to ensure it is safe and appropriate for your individual needs.
