On the morning of November 20, information from the Ministry of Public Security's Hospital 199 (in Da Nang) said that doctors from the Obstetrics and Pediatrics unit performed surgery to remove a 2.5kg uterine fibroid from a 34-year-old female patient.
Accordingly, in the late afternoon of November 19, the patient went to the gynecology department at Hospital 199 with symptoms of fatigue, severe abdominal pain, and menorrhagia. After examination and necessary tests, the doctors determined that this was a large uterine fibroid, the tumors were as large as the tip of the sternum, equivalent to a 30-week pregnancy, and severe anemia.
It is known that this patient has never been to a gynecologist. 3 months ago, the patient felt her abdomen was big and painful, so she went to a private hospital in the area. The results of the examination showed that the doctors had discovered a large uterine fibroid, but had not yet received any treatment.
After consultation, the doctors decided to perform surgery to avoid bad complications for the patient. The optimal surgical method chosen for the patient was a partial hysterectomy leaving 2 appendages, performed by the team of doctors from the Obstetrics and Pediatrics unit including: Dr. CKII Truong Quoc Viet (team leader) and colleagues Doan Thi Thanh Hoa and Truong Huu Phuoc.
The 70-minute surgery was a success. The team of doctors removed a 2.5kg fibroid tumor from the patient. The patient is currently recovering from surgery and is in good health.
According to Dr. Doan Thi Thanh Hoa, Head of the Obstetrics and Pediatrics Unit, this is a difficult surgical case, requiring the surgeon to have good skills and high expertise. At the same time, it is recommended that women should have a gynecological examination at least once a year to detect diseases early, in order to treat them promptly to reduce costs and minimize impact on their health.
