Patient P.L. D (2 years and 5 months old, residing in Vinh Long), was taken by his family for in-depth auditory examination at the hospital after being diagnosed with congenital deafness. After examination and evaluation, doctors prescribed cochlear electrode implantation for treatment intervention.
The surgery went smoothly, the electrode system was placed in the correct position in the cochlea, helping the child stabilize after surgery.
After surgery, the child recovered well. When the surgical wound is stable, the child will be fitted with external devices and enter a specialized listening and speaking rehabilitation program.
Cochlear electrode implantation is a technique of inserting an electronic device into the cochlear, helping severely deaf or deeply deaf patients recover their hearing ability. Unlike hearing aids that only amplify sound, this device directly stimulates the auditory nerve, transmitting sound signals to the brain so that patients can feel and distinguish sounds.
The successful implementation of this technique marks an important step forward in the development of specialized techniques at the City Children's Hospital, while expanding treatment opportunities for hearing-impaired children, helping them integrate into the community early and develop language.
The surgery was performed by a team of Ear, Nose and Throat specialists from the City Children's Hospital, in coordination with experts from the Ear, Nose and Throat Hospital.
In the coming time, the hospital will continue to promote the deployment of specialized techniques, improve the quality of treatment and rehabilitation for children with ear, nose and throat diseases.
